Nursing Travel Jobs - How to Travel and Work As a Nurse

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Are you certified to work as a nurse? Do you want to travel the world while practicing your profession?

The global demands of certified health care professional nowadays are great, are nurses are needed everywhere. In many cities all over the world, there are serious staffing problems. Skilled health care professionals are scarce in some localities while some countries are overflowing with such professional workers.

This crisis has brought new job opportunities for nurses. Medical institutions such as hospitals, clinics, and research facilities are willing to hire short-term employees to cater to the medical demands of the populace. Thus, nurses can now travel and work all over the world moving from one contract to the next. It is a great opportunity to improve your nursing skills and enhance your qualifications.

Some cities may hire based on seasonal needs. The population in such places surges during certain times of the year and the ordinary number of skilled professionals is not enough to handle all of the medical situations that might come up. So they have to hire temporary workers.

If you are qualified to work as a nurse, take advantage of this opportunity. Try finding an agency that can provide you with varied assignments. Most will require at least a year of practical experience as well as a local license, which you can obtain through these agencies.

The Internet is great source of information about travel agencies and the most reputable ones always have professional websites and prompt support staff. To avoid being scammed, always try the largest and the most long-standing agencies in the industry. These are more likely to be legit and trustworthy.

When you want to try some less known agencies, be sure to examine them closely and do not just give away personal information. Never pay upfront fees and try to get recommendations of people you know who have already worked as travel nurses.

The next thing you should do is prepare an updated resume that highlights all your relevant skills. In your cover letter, state your willingness and enthusiasm to work in different places.

Every assignment has varying compensations and benefits. Before jumping into an assignment, make it a point to assess the work environment, demands, and hours. You should also examine the housing plans, the distance from your housing to the workplace, and benefits such as 401K. Some jobs pay less but demands less effort and hours. Others may seem too good to be true but the work pressure could be intense.

Sometimes, you will never really know until you get there yourself. There is really a sense of adventure when it comes to travel nursing. You can enhance your qualifications and credentials with travel nursing experience. You can work as a travel nurse as long as you want and eventually, when you want to settle in a full time nursing job, your insights and experience can help you choose where to work.

To conclude, travel nursing is a great opportunity for young nursing professionals and for veterans in the industry who want a lifestyle change.

A Beginners Guide to Business Travel Insurance

Image : http://www.flickr.com

For business trips, a corporate insurance plan is necessary for those needing something more than standard cover whilst retaining the benefits of a standard travel insurance policy - cancellation, medical, luggage etc

Business travel cover will insure your laptop, mobile phone, palm & other related business equipment & include the hiring of replacement items. This also includes the recreation of business documents lost, damaged or stolen during travel.

3 Key Advantages of Business Travel Insurance

Corporate Travel Cover should add 3 key advantages to the plethora of benefits offered by a standard holiday insurance plan:

  • Business Equipment Cover

  • Hire Business Equipment Cover

  • Recreate Commercial Documents

That is the insurer should pay for accidental loss, theft or damage of equipment (Computer & accessories, other commercial related equipment and business documents).

The insurer should also pay you for the hiring of alternative business equipment in the event of accidental loss, theft or damage to business equipment, including misdirection or delay in transit of said equipment.

With regards to work related documents, the insurer should pay for the re-creation of business documents, plans & presentations if they are lost stolen or damaged.

Question: What if I am going on a combined holiday & work trip? Will a business insurance policy cover me?

Answer: It should. However if you travel regularly throughout the year, you may be interested in purchasing a multi trip insurance plan.

Business Travel Insurance vs Regular Travel Insurance

Remember, with work related travel, lots of wildcard scenario's can occur.

The other company can cancel the meeting at the last minute. This often leaves the travelling company to foot the bill, however this would be covered by standard trip cancellation.

Other incidents can befall a business traveler: general illness, business critical equipment can be stolen, lost or damaged. These factors are all things to consider when booking a business trip.

With regards to the value of your equipment, business trip insurance will provide far more cover than a regular travel insurance policy.

While a regular holiday insurance policy will provide coverage for lost, stolen or damaged luggage, this is not the same as the specific cover for business related equipment.

Travel Packing Check Lists - Make Your Trip & Life Easier

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Here is our travel pack list & reminders of what to do before you leave for your vacation. Plus, we provide a checklist to remember what to consider packing. That way you hopefully won't overpack or forget anything you must take with you.

This is a great article to print out and use while planning your trip.

Before You Leave Travel Packing Reminders:

  • Plan ahead: Sit down and prepare a travel pack list of what you'll need, what you plan to do while in Florida, and what you must take and do before you go

  • Start looking for Florida travel deals

  • Research where you are going in Florida

  • Research reviews and do your homework (best deals, what to do, where to stay, etc...)

  • Shop for everything you'll need or want to take

  • Start an exercise program to get your best beach body (if that is in your plan)

  • Search for and check dates and information on important documents
These include, Id's, passports & visas, pet information, etc...)
Book your airfare, car rental, and lodgings (make sure you know all the terms and conditions when booking. Ie. Cancellations, refunds, and so forth

  • Check weather in the area you are visiting

  • Know your credit card information, limits, & amounts

  • Have your banking information & debit cards up to date

  • Contact anyone important to let them know you'll be out of town

  • Visit your doctor or dentist to ensure your health

  • Accomodate for your pets (whether you take them or leave them behind)

  • Plan for someone to check your house and collect your mail & newspapers

  • Reconfirm everything we've mentioned and your travel pack list

  • Obtain travelers checks at your bank

  • Get all your medications and prescriptions you need

  • Have car checked and tuned up if you take your own vehicle

  • Lock up your valuables in a safe or safe deposit box

  • Pay the bills, take care of house stuff (plants, cut grass, utilities, etc...)
You don't want to look like you're gone

  • Pick up dry cleaning and finish any last minute errands

  • Start packing what's on your travel pack list - Make sure luggage is marked

  • Double check all documents...make copies if necessary

  • Relax, you should have everything...

  • Recheck your travel pack list and you'll be fine.

Here are a few more tips to live by...

Carry-on Items:

Be sure you carry on valuables, cameras, film, documents, wallet (money in general), coupons, tickets, itenerary (with all pertinent information), brochures, maps, guides, reading materials, baby stuff, kids stuff, medications you must have, and anything in particular that you find important. If you think you should carry-on, then do. Don't be like Focker.

Medications:

Have your meds in the original bottles, have doctor letters if necessary. Remember airlines are scetchy about certain items (if you fly).

If you drive having this information is important if you get pulled over and asked by a cop.

Film: We recommend you buy a digital camera or camcorder. Film is a pain and can get damaged easily.

I know that may be an added expense, but if you shop around, you can find a great deal. We just want to ensure you retain the priceless memories of your Florida trip.

If you must have film, our best recommendation is buy it when you get there. Pack it wisely (in your purse for instance), or develop it before you return home.

Pack Light:

You can check if the hotel has a laundry service. Plan ahead. Make a travel pack list, check it twice. Wait- isn't that a song? Just kidding. Bad humor, it's that doing a travel pack list can get boring.

But, it is important. Anyway, just pack intelligently. Take some extra money to shop if you absolutely forget something. Learn to fold, be creative, and lay everything on your travel pack list out.

As an idea, the two of us take a big piece of luggage and one smaller one. Then we carry a backback, small carry-on bag, or briefcase and we fit everything we need from our travel pack list.

Some of the major things to remember to pack include, money, documents, clothing, toiletries, electronics, things to keep you busy, other personal/individual items, and of course the kids (if you have them).

This is just a portion of what to remember. There are lists available online to use and check off items/things to do as you plan your vacation.

Agriculture In Thailand

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Agriculture is considered as the backbone of a country. It plays an important role in generating national income, in solving unemployment problem in rural areas, and in maintaining equilibrium in domestic food supply. Rice is the main staple in Thailand. Thai farmers concentrate more on paddy fields and it was one of their main export products.

Rice is mostly grown in central regions of Thailand. Thai farmers work throughout the year, and after the annual harvest season, they plan for the second cultivation or sometimes they concentrate on raising animals or fish. Thailand is popular for its vast fertile land and ample supply of water. It is said to have the most fertile lands in Asia. Thailand is also referred to as the "Rice Bowl". Farmers used to rear fish and grow paddy simultaneously; as a result they used to have a continuous supply of fresh fish and rice to live on.

Today the farmers in Thailand face a number of problems as the Thai government promoted high input, export orientated agricultural systems to increase the country's growth rate. This growth policy has resulted in retardation of the country's agricultural sector. Poor farm management techniques and inappropriate use of agrochemicals has resulted in soil erosion and soil exhaustion, further damaging the agriculture sector.

Another serious problem in Thailand is the increase in death and illness among farmers due to pesticides. This is mainly due to the lack of knowledge with regards to agrochemical application and safety procedures. In 1988 the number of people reported to be suffering from pesticide poisoning was 4,234, while the number of deaths from pesticide poisoning was 34.

The Thai government is finally awakening to reality and it is about time that the government took an initiative to help the ailing agriculture sector otherwise Thailand may lose the title of "Rice bowl".

Cheap Ticket Steals for Travel Opportunists

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Travel gurus would always remind us that backpacking around the world or going abroad for a student workshop do not require heavy budget. Unless you fancy souvenirs and expensive restaurants, it's much easier to subsist on a controlled budget. Actually, one of the top reasons for the cheapest packages or the friendliest agents offering the best travel rates we still grope for our credit cards is the fact that we are not grabbing opportunities, and it's almost a cliche. For example, if I am going to book a flight to Nevada, I'd probably take a direct flight so less waste of time. So I check out icheapfares.com for instance and find discount airfare rates. However, unless I make further research, I won't realize that I could actually take two flights to get there, both costing less than the direct flight to Nevada even when combined. Moreover, the search only allows me to find 'affordable' hotels or motels, but never apartments near the area. So looking for the best rates online can sometimes be a narrow and stupefying process.

Fortunately for those who love to browse travel guides, Fielding's, Fodor's, and Frommer's can easily be accessed online as well as on many travel kiosks and bookshops. But there are budget traveling secrets that are too subtle for the human perception to notice. For example, ask yourself: Do you actually enjoy the travel or the destination itself? Most of my friends confess that they hate airline food and the plane flights or cruises make their stomachs queasy. Not to mention the fact that traveling itself drains their wallets! So to make things convenient, they had to think of creative ways to stay on land, revel on the surroundings, and cook their own meals. That would mean checking out the nearby apartments instead of a discount hotel, or buying their own food from the grocery instead of marauding the local restaurant. Now, we're talking controlled budget here!

There are travelers who insist on going certain fixed days when they could have gone on off-peak days such as Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. You can bet that you will often get the cheapest tickets during these days, as well as during certain off-peak months, such as summer in
Aruba or April until October in the Pacific Islands. One example is booking a flight to Honolulu for $485 -- or elsewhere in the US at Orbitz.com. At Orbitz, you can take advantage of tickets sold 'today' at discount airfare rates which you can use next year. Also, travel buffs sometimes register to discount travel sites such as Tripadvisor.com in order to take advantage of the newsletters they offer. These newsletters update them on the latest deals on both travel and hotel packages.

Another question you should ask yourself is: Am I traveling as a tourist or as an ordinary citizen who wants to spend Thanksgiving with my relatives in Miami? This should give you a hint whether to take an international or domestic flight. Domestic flights are far cheaper to the point that you can actually squeeze your budget and still have something left to buy an extra pair of jeans. If you travel outside of the country, be sure to take with you my word of caution: The natives will always hike up the prices for almost all the goods and services that you will consume -- most notably a cab ride. Let them know that you're a budget traveler, or at least ask for the real price before accepting offers.

Now, are you set? Traveling on discounted prices don't have to be a pain in the neck. When an opportunity for a cheap flight arises, be the first to snatch it. Remember that a holiday spent in the Bahamas may be just as cozy as the one spent at home -- but an inexpensive treat to the Caribbean can make a whole world of difference if you get a flight ticket that's a real steal.

Maine Travel Deals

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Natural beauty in New England is aplenty, and Maine has a different vacation in store for everyone. Depending upon personal interests and the places one wants to see, there are a hundreds of travel deals on the market.

For outdoor-recreation lovers, lakeside cabins are ideal with peaceful surroundings and a chance to enjoy nature with all its wildlife. Since most of these cabins are around the lakeshore, there are plenty of activities to enjoy. Swimming, sunbathing, and fishing are enjoyable in the summer, and as winter sets in, snowmobiling, skiing, and ice fishing are popular sports. Most of these cabins range between $50 to $ 85 per day and discounts are available for extended periods of stay. These are also one of the cheapest deals available in the market.

There are plenty of mansions and castles turned into rental hotels with excellent hospitality that range from $150 to $250 a night. One of the best is the Caption Lord Mansion, situated around the Kennebunk River. The mansion is listed on the national register and is situated in a quiet residential area within walking distance from the Dock Square with its shops, galleries, and fine restaurants. There are other inns and resorts around, and one needs to shop around for the best deals.

Travel packages generally focus on a specific area such as the coasts or the mountains, and the deals depend upon the number of days and the type of activities. A Maine multi-sport tour with bicycling, river rafting, hiking, and camping for about a week would cost a little above $2,000, whereas a weekend getaway with sailing, nature parks, and wildlife observation could easily be around $250 per person.

Travel With Children

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you plan to travel with kids, you want to plan well. Otherwise, your trip may turn into chaos and frustration. Advance planning will keep everyone busy. It will also improve the experience for the whole family.

It is a good idea to bring your kids to toys store, before you start taking a trip. You do not need to spend a lot of money. You can take them to a dollar toys store, and you can buy them a collection of small cheap toys such as travel games. Let them have the toys on the plane or in the car. It will keep them busy, and they will not keep asking, "Are we there yet?" Avoiding boredom is the key to keep everyone happy.

You should also plan regular breaks, if it is possible. Everyone wants a chance to stretch. You may want to plan out your route in advance. You want to find cool stops along the way for the children. If you can not find anything, you may consider stopping at supermarkets for snacks .If you are on a plane, you can walk up and down the aisles.

Seating arrangements can make all the difference. It is wise to pair up children with adults. So the adults can supervise children. If children sit too closed to each other, they may also start fighting.

Driving games that involve spotting objects are great on the road. They keep the whole family occupied.

Find at least one major stop of just kids. You want to give them something to look forward to make special experience for the whole family.

Travel Nurse Companies

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The industry of traveling nurses has picked up and the number of companies has soared in recent years. With the United States of America and Canada experiencing a shortage in for the past couple of years, traveling nurse companies are appearing in large numbers. Within the United States and Canada, these companies search for nurses and send them to medical centers and hospitals that are in need of and lack manpower. The nurses who are sent to different locations enjoy a lifestyle of traveling and lucrative pay. They are also given medical, health, life, dental and vision insurance, with food and lodging allowances, and an all-expense paid trip to their destination. They may even be given a retirement package. Some companies offer allowances for continued education. Wanting to stock up on their manpower, companies offer loyalty and referral bonuses to encourage their current nurses to stay while looking for more health-care professionals.

With the lack of manpower in the US and Canada, there are companies who are opening up employment to foreign countries such as the Philippines, India, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa. Health care professionals have to meet high standards and a certain level of educational background and experience to qualify for these companies. Applicants who originate from non-English speaking countries have to pass exams to test their skills on comprehensive reading and writing in English to qualify for the job. They also have to qualify for a Visa in the country of their destinations. However, due to the lack of nurses, these countries usually grant them the necessary documents. In fact, in recent years, the United States has started giving out Visas just for nurses.

All the Different Kinds and Types of Nursing Jobs

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Let's take a look at the various nursing jobs and positions that are out there. The nursing jobs that are typically available are classified as registered nursing (RN), or licensed practical nursing or licensed vocational nurses (LPN/LVN), and a nursing assistant. RN's (registered nurses) are the cream of the crop as far as nurses go. They oversee the tasks that are done by the LPNs, and nursing assistants. The LPN and the LVN nurses services are to provide the basic care under the guidance of a physician, RN (registered nurse) or a nurse practitioner.

Nursing assistants are not nurses and they are not the same at all. Their tasks are limited to the duties given to them by the RN or the LPNs. A certified nursing assistant helps the nurse by administering things such as hygienic care, giving basic psychosocial care, and other similar tasks. Also, the nursing jobs that are listed as full time nursing, contract nursing, office nursing, part time nursing, hospital nursing, private duty nursing, health or industrial nursing, public health nursing, psych nursing, and my personal favorite travel nursing.

Those nurses who are full time, registered are regularly scheduled on a 40 hour week in a 7 day period, or an 80 hour work per week schedule in a 14 day duration, or 160 in a 4 week time frame. Office, hospital, and home nursing are the kinds of full time nursing jobs right now. To be a part time nurse, you have to work at least 20 hours of a 7 day period and are eligible for salaries and benefits that are prorated.

As mentioned above, there are a lot of nursing jobs, but contract nursing has to be the one that is favored among the RN career opportunities. It's gaining such popularity right now at a rapid rate. For those people that prefer a more stable position in one place, then full time nursing is the right decision. For part time nurses and travel nursing jobs, those are best suited for those that like to travel and work in a variety of places. Many of these nursing jobs offer great pay and housing already paid for.

With the popularity of nursing jobs, there have been a lot of website popping up and helping nursing agencies recruit more and more nurses. These websites are designed to assist those that are looking to find nursing jobs across the country or even in their own backyard.

How to Pack Travel Luggage

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Going for short trips or vacations can be very refreshing. Work or study, whatever you do, you deserve a break once in a while. And what can be a better way to relax and rest other than travel? Holidaying with loved ones is the most enjoyable and satisfying way of spending your free time. No matter how busy you are throughout the year, it is always good to go for a vacation whenever possible.

One of the main concerns while traveling is the luggage. You have to pack numerous things in order to ensure a hassle free stay away from home. If you miss one essential thing, you can find yourself in trouble in a foreign land. Other than clothes there are toiletries to be taken along with the first aid kit and also the cosmetics. A couple of story books, your ipod and your sunglasses are important too! Because of the range of things you need to pack in your travel bag, it might get a little too puzzling!

Following are a few useful tips on how you should go about packing your travel luggage:

1. Start planning your vacation well ahead of time. If you have managed a leave from work in December, you will do well to get your planning done by October! This is important for more reasons than one.

2. The kind of clothing you take depends largely on the place you are going to. If it's a tropical country, you won't need winter wear, but if it's the opposite, you have to pack in your sweaters and jackets. However, basics of clothing will include t-shirts and jeans, or whatever you are comfortable in. Also take clothes that are easy to wash, don't need ironing and can easily be dried. A pair of comfortable shoes is something you must pack in your luggage.

3. Heavier items like electronic goods, toiletries and so on should go in to the bottom of the travel bag. It will be easier for you to carry that way.

4. Get your first aid kit and prescription drugs in your hand bag or back-pack. These are the things that need to be accessible, so it's better to keep them at hand all the time.

5. Start gathering all the essentials at least ten to twelve days before you start your journey. Keep everything arranged systematically before putting them in the bag. This will enable you to check each item before you pack them in.

6. It is wise to check with the rules of the airlines you are traveling with. Check whether the weight of your luggage is within the stipulated amount. You don't want your things to be thrown away at the airport. Even if the security person does not discard your luggage, you will undoubtedly be in an embarrassing situation. So, be judicious in packing your stuff.

Traveling can be very exciting and fun. Make sure that your luggage is not a hindrance to your easy movement. Pack smartly; make your luggage as light and handy as possible. Choose bags that are easy to carry and don't forget to take the essentials. Now you're all set to have a great time traveling!

Travel to Barcelona (Spain), A Gloriously Traditional city

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Travel to Barcelona for a unique cultural, historical and sensorial experience. It is a throbbing, vibrant city at once firmly grounded in its rich heritage and looking to the future. A tour to Barcelona promises an eclectic palette.

The second largest city in Spain, Barcelona is situated in the northeastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

As you travel to Barcelona, it is interesting to note that the city has its roots in a Roman colony founded way back in the 2nd century B.C.

You will be struck by the architecture of the city on your voyage to Barcelona. It is the seat of Modernist Architecture and the city skyline sports a dynamic and dramatic look courtesy the concrete creations of Master Antoní Gaudí and his contemporaries.

You will surely discover the amazing history of Barcelona traveling through its lanes. Its Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance monuments are lovingly conserved, as are the labyrinth of narrow alleys.

Such curious mixes of the old and the new make a travel to Barcelona in Spain a truly enriching and enchanting experience.

In Barcelona, take a tour to La Rambla. This busy boulevard houses a bird market, a grand 19th century opera house, a marine museum stocking an extensive collection of navy items including 16th century galleys and a monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus.

The history buff's tour of Barcelona will remain incomplete without a voyage to Barri Gotic, which is an area of medieval Gothic structures including the Cathedral, one of the greatest examples of Gothic architecture in Spain and the numerous museums dotting the city.

Fundació Miró is a veritable treasure-trove of contemporary art, while the Barbier-Mueller Museum of Pre-Columbian Art is the only European museum dedicated to artworks from this era. For the art aficionados, a voyage to the Picasso Museum housing his early works and the residence-turned museum of Gaudi with its marvelous pink-hued Alice-in-Wonderland structure, is a must when on a tour to Barcelona.

If you are a music maniac, Music Palace definitely awaits your voyage. An elegant colorful structure, this Music Palace is one of the world's most extraordinary music halls and an epitome of Modernistic Architecture.

When you travel to Barcelona in Spain, let music be your Muse. The SONAR and the Primavera music festivals are treats for the ears.

Preventing Workplace Accidents Using The Power of DIY Safety Poster Prints From Your Color Printer

Image : http://www.flickr.com

You have heard of Hazcom, Hazchem and Hazmat in safety. Now we have Haztoon. That's right. Cartoons deliver safety messages with impact.

It is very challenging to communicate safety in a work environment. Accidents are not cheap. In fact, they can be very, very expensive! Think about insurance claims, loss days, production loss, reports, manpower disruptions, morale...

The root of the problem is people. It's not easy to get people to follow safety rules.

The personal protective equipment that companies provide is practically useless if workers are not using them. Safety guidelines are useless when they are not followed. The keyword is willingness. A willingness by the workers to observe good safety practices when nobody supervises.

Somehow, people need to get it into their subconscious mind to want to follow safety rules and regulations. It is an uphill task for the safety practitioner - how to drive the message through.

Researchers have found that people remember 50% more in what they see than in what they hear. Visuals get people's attention. The many images on billboards, magazines, newspapers or even on the internet are testimonies that advertising visuals are so effective.

Humor effectively drives a point. Accident situations cannot be photographed. Only stuntmen are crazy enough to perform risky activities that can potentially result in accidents.

Cartoons can effectively illustrate dangerous situations that might be near impossible to capture on film.

The successful safety poster first captures people's attention with the graphics and the color. Next, it lets them enjoy the images to relax their mood. Finally, it presents the safety message for the finale.

If done well, people will remember the messages in safety posters for a very long time. When people are exposed sufficiently over a long period of time, the messages sink into their subconscious mind. It becomes second nature to them.

This fact has been used in advertisement and propaganda - all for one purpose - to influence people's opinion or buying behavior. Cartoon posters do influence people's behavior. It's fun too.

The challenge is to find such posters that are both cheap and good. The easiest way out is the diy approach - print them yourself. A good computer color printer is all that is ever needed.

How to Travel Abroad Safely: Six Important Tips You Need to Know in an Emergency

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Millions of Americans enjoy the adventure and experience of traveling abroad each year. But even the best-planned vacation can turn into a nightmare in the face of a natural disaster, terrorist attack, civil unrest, illness, or other emergency situation.

Fortunately, with a little forethought you can prepare for your trip in a way that offers you the most security and peace of mind even while visiting international locations.

1. Have the Right Paperwork.

A valid passport, current and with the emergency page complete, along with any necessary visas, is essential. The U.S. Department of State recommends that you make two copies of the identification page of your passport--one to keep with you (if you lose your passport this will help you get it replaced) and one to leave with your family or friends at home.

2. Do Your Homework.

Take the time to read up on the country you are visiting. Pay attention to local customs and laws. Remember that once you leave the United States, U.S. laws no longer apply. Also, watch out for travel warnings and consider postponing or relocating your trip if danger is present.

3. Tell Your Friends and Family Where You Will Be.

Leave a copy of your itinerary, including flight numbers, hotels and contact information, and any other plans, with your family or friends at home. In the event of an emergency, they'll have a starting place of where to look.

4. Register With the Nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

These agencies help close to 200,000 Americans each year who fall victim to crime, accident or illness or whose family is trying to contact them due to an emergency. In the event of a natural disaster like Hurricane Wilma, which stranded thousands of tourists in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, it's the embassy or consulates job to locate Americans and help them.

If you register your trip with the agency, it will be much easier for them to locate you. Also be sure to take the addresses and telephone numbers of U.S. embassies and consulates in the countries you will visit with you on your trip.

5. Be Prepared Medically.

Make sure to take your insurance cards with you and determine what medical services are covered while you're overseas. The U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs also recommends that you carry a letter from your physician describing any pre-existing medical conditions and names of medications, along with any medications you take (in their original containers with labels). You may also want to take an extra week's worth of medication with you in the event of emergency.

6. Make Sure Your Cell Phone Has International Access.

Not every cell phone will work once you travel outside of the United States. Making sure that your cell phone does work when you're abroad makes it much easier to stay in touch with loved ones at home in the event of an emergency.

How To Travel Cheap - 7 Tips To Save Gas On Your Trip

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Gas prices are out of control! If you are looking for ways to travel cheap, here are a few tips to save money on gas during your vacation.

1. Turn off the air conditioner. Now of course if you are traveling through Florida in August this is impractical. But if it's a nice day or you're driving during the evening, try switching off the A/C for a while and enjoying the outside air. You will be pleasantly surprised how much you notice going on around you with the windows open. Try it! Using the A/C reduces fuel economy so you can go longer between pit stops at the gas stations.

2. If you have cruise control be sure to use it as this will save gas. By the same token, don't forget to use the overdrive also, which is another gas-saving hint. Most people forget.

3. Try reducing weight - not people but things! Check out what is in your trunk and get rid of anything you don't need that might be weighing you down.

4. Slow down. Driving faster actually increases turbulence and fuel use.

5. Another gas tip for help on how to travel cheap: If you are planning to remain stationary for more than a minute (waiting for someone to run into the store, waiting at a railroad track, etc), turn off the ignition. Surprisingly this saves on fuel.

6. Keep your tires at their specified level of air. This will improve your gas mileage.

7. Check Mapquest before leaving home and pick the best route. Don't forget to print out the directions and bring them along with you as you will waste tons of gas if you get lost. And this is inevitable if you are in a strange place. I try to anticipate where I might be planning to go and print out all the directions. Bring along a local map too in case you do get lost.

If you want to learn how to travel cheap, saving money on fuel is a terrific way to get a head start on savings.

Coastal Vacation Club and the Benefits of Travel Club Membership

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Internet consists of an affiliation of businesses and individuals who work together for the profit and benefit of all parties involved. Such is the case with the online travel industry and wholesale travel clubs like the Coastal Vacation Club.

Groups of individuals running their own travel businesses work together as part of a consortium or club that uses a variety of vendors or sources for information and online bookings.

These online travel clubs are your best source for discount week long condo stays, Carnival & Royal Caribbean Cruises, airfare specials, hotels, and Golf packages.

Though the individual sites are not connected, and independently owned they use the same strategies and often go through common vendors to obtain discounts and other benefits.

Each person who runs their own business was trained by the central agency and a team of directors.

Club Benefits

This results in three benefits for the business owners. First, it obviously generates income. Each time they sell a discount vacation membership, they earn money. Considering the boom and appeal of discount travel, income potential in this industry can be quite high. Some business owners use it as a source of a little extra money, others find that they can earn a very nice living with minimal effort.

The second benefit to business owners is discount travel rewards. Members can take advantage of the club's discounts on their own travels. Since most people who go into this line of work are already passionate about travel, this is a very nice bonus. People are typically able to save up to 75 percent off their own vacations.

The third benefit to business owners is that they can offer travel rewards and incentives to their best customers and employees. Retail business owners love to give away 2 night 3 day get-a-ways, plus cruises on Carnival or Royal Caribbean, or week long condo stays.

Jeff Mills is a former Youth Pastor of 9 years, who is now a full time internet information entrepreneur, book author, speaker, sales coach, and also an avid traveler.

Jeff has passionately pursued seeking the best discount travel clubs and has discovered Coastal Vacations Travel Club to be the top of the heap, saving members up to 75% off their trips for life. Lakeside Amusement Park

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Lakeside Amusement Park is the oldest amusement park in Colorado, Denver. Before, it was owned by family and soon expanded and become an amusement park and become operational to the public.

During 1908, it was opened as a well-known amusement resort. It was named as White City because of the twinkling lights it brings during night time. Years had passed, it was renovated many times and added many features to better serve the visitors. There are three entrance gates to reach the park. Admission is free for kids' age two and below. Adults are issued coupons and can be used for unlimited rides at the park or you can buy ride ticket individually.

Examples of rides for kids and adults are the train depot, the carousel, the Ferris wheel, Kiddy Play Land, Cyclone coaster and a lot more.

Parking space at the area is limited, but you can occupy more free spaces at the Lakeside in which you can use. Parking is totally free. However, some would think that parking is not free because most of the time, especially when there are many patrons and the park is almost full, they collect entrance fee at the parking lot itself to reduce a long line at the booth.

Enjoying the rides are often seen to kids. No wonder why many families would rather go to amusement parks rather than visiting simple parks with only playground available. But, the important is, you spend your happy times filled with laughter and excitement at the park with your family around.

How I Get Paid to Travel

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Have you ever wondered how it could be possible to get paid to travel?

I have been around the world and it has been a wonderful and enlightening experience. Riding the elephants in Thailand, climbing the mountainous regions of Europe and enjoying the beaches of the Caribbean. It was even better than I expected, the world is truly a beautiful place.

I am not trying to brag; but the point of telling you my good fortune is to help you see that you can have the opportunity to travel as well. It is very likely that you still have the traditional way of thinking when it comes to achieving your travel goals.

Maybe you still have the impression that you have to work your butt off so you can save money for your vacation. And when you think about it, you think you'll have to reach old age before going for the journey of your dreams. It doesn't have to be that way and you don't have to be rich either.

This is why I'm telling you, I have done it. I was not wealthy when I started traveling and I am definitely not a retiree. It's just a matter of knowing what opportunities the travel and tourism industry has to offer and having an awareness and knowledge for utilizing technology to earn a passive income.

I have seen a lot of people like me. Every one of them has their own story to tell but there is one common factor; they all know how to earn and manage their finances while traveling. They are what I call "enlightened" and the more they travel and explore, the more they learn about making money on the move.

There can be a lot of ways to get paid while traveling. So let me disregard the idea that you're only option is saving money for a long duration of time. Here are better alternatives.

The Backpacker Approach:

Backpackers are people with a tremendous craving for experience and exploration. What they do is save a bit of money, pack their stuff and go on a journey. They sustain their travels by finding work in hostels, ranches, or farms all over the world.

They take advantage of the openings. People all over the world especially in Europe, New Zealand, and Australia offer jobs for nomadic backpackers. Jobs are typically helping with the daily chores and other menial tasks. Backpackers will get free food and accommodations in return. Extra pay for additional income is very common as well.

Experienced travelers know where to look for jobs and if they wanted to, they can go on traveling forever because they know how to find money in their travels.

Getting a job with travel perks:

Travel and tourism have a lot of jobs openings. Tour directors, adventure guides, and travel agents can travel for free because it is all part of the job. Hospitality workers can have jobs in hotels and resorts in tourist destinations. Others can work as flight attendants and cruise liner staff where traveling is a lifestyle.

Even teaching and medical jobs also have travel opportunities. They can have work assignments from different parts of the world.

The Entrepreneurial Spirit

You can travel and buy products from foreign places and sell them on eBay with huge profits. Travels can also be used as topics for your website to get more traffic. With, savvy optimization you can monetize it either by ad space, affiliate marketing, or product selling. Freelancers can also travel and work anywhere they choose to.

Cultural And Historical Tourism

Cultural tourism is referred to the kind of tourism, which is concerned with the culture of a specific region or country, particularly in the arts. It basically focuses on the traditional communities that have diverse customs as well as the forms of art and the distinct social practices that distinguish a certain culture from the others.

It would include tourism in the urban areas and even the historic and large cities, including facilities like theaters and museums. It also includes this in the rural areas, which showcase the traditions of the indigenous cultural communities like festivals and rituals, as well as their personal values and lifestyle. Generally, these tourists spend more than then the standard tourists do, since they usually have a program that would have them traveling to the cultural and historical sites, as well as living with the families for a certain period of time and even some language training. This kind of is actually becoming more popular in Europe.

Another closely related kind is cultural heritage tourism, which is a branch that is oriented towards understanding the heritage of a specific area or region. This is essential because of different reasons. It creates a positive impact economically and socially. It helps in the establishment and reinforcement of identity. How Does A Handheld GPS Work?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Originally sent into orbit by the United States Department of Defense, these satellites were originally intended to be used for military purposes. In the mid 1980's, the government allowed the public to use these satellites and there are no setup fees or subscription fees to use the GPS systems.

How does it work?

In a very precise orbit, 24 satellites circle the earth, twice a day and transmit a signal back to earth. This information is taken in by GPS navigational receivers and uses a triangulation system to calculate the user or GPS unit's position. What happens is the GPS receiver compares the time a transmitting signal was given and the time a transmitting signal was received. This difference in time tells the GPS navigational receiver unit just how far the distance is between it and the satellite is. And then, with several more time measurement differences, the GPS receiver will know be able to determine the position of the GPS user and display that on the screen. It's all in the timing.

In order for a 2D GPS receiver to work properly, it must be locked into at least two satellites in order to tack movements and calculate latitude and longitude. Using four or more satellites, the GPS receiver can establish the position of altitude, latitude and longitude. From the user's position, it can then calculate other things such as bearing, trip distance, and distance to destination, speed, sunrise and sunset times, locations of points of interest and much more.

What is the signal?

Using line of sight to travel, each GPS satellite transmits two low powered radio signals. This means the signals can travel through clouds, plastic and glass but not through buildings or mountains which are solid objects.

There are three different bits of information contained in each GPS signal - almanac data, pseudorandom data and ephemeris data. The almanac data is contains important information about the satellite, whether it is healthy or not and the current date and time. This portion of the satellite data is vital for determining the positions. Pseudorandom data is an identification code or ID that identifies which satellite is transmitting data at what time. The ephemeris data tells the GPS receivers where each satellite should be throughout any given day. This is also the orbital information each satellite.

Accuracy

Thanks in part to their parallel multi-channel design, GPS are more reliable and accurate then they were just a few years ago. Most GPS receivers are quick to lock on to a satellite and remain with that satellite throughout your travels; however, there are a few atmospheric interferences that cannot be helped. The 24 satellites are orbiting approximately 12,000 miles above the earth and are constantly moving, making two complete rotations around the earth every 24 hours. There speed is nearly 7,000 miles per hour. These satellites are motorized by solar energy and carry backup batteries in case of a solar eclipse of the sun.

Safe Car Travel With Your Pets

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Many of us will hit the road this year to visit family, friends or for a vacation. Many of us will take our pets with us. A pet has special needs when traveling that you must consider. Here are some tips for traveling safely with your pets.

Food & Water

You'll want to carry enough food and water for the pet for as many days as you will be traveling. In addition, there are special collapsible dog food and water bowls available that allow you to serve your pet at anytime, and then collapse the bowl down so it doesn't take up alot of room. And don't forget the treats! Have plenty of treats to give your pet when they are restless. Some treats will work better than others in a vehicle. Pick treats that won't make a mess, won't make alot of noise and will keep the pet busy. For dogs, consider a Kong treat, which is a rubber like treat that you can insert smaller treats into. Your pet will be distracted trying to get the treats out of the toy.

Comfort

Don't forget to bring along your pets favorite blanket, pillow or stuffed animal, the familiarity with these items will decrease any shock or homesickness the pet might feel. Bring along extra blankets so the pet can take a nap or rest in it. It will also keep pet hair away from your seats!

Safety

Nowadays, there are special safety harnesses and belts for different sizes of dogs. For small dogs, there are modified car seats that have a padded area for the dog to sit in. The car seat, or pooch seat, is strapped into the seat using a seatbelt. In addition, for medium and large size dogs, you may be worried about them jumping around in the vehicle while you are driving. For larger dogs, there are harnesses which basically keeps the dog in their seat using a specially modified version of a seatbelt. These restraints allow the dog to sit in the seat and still enjoy a view out the window without endangering themselves or the driver. For large and older dogs, there is also a restraint that allows your dog to sit or lay in the back seat of the vehicle safely and is especially good if you're going off road or going to travel rough roads with many turns and bumps, as these harnesses will keep your dog in place.

Car Sickness

For dogs that throw up during car rides, there are options to help. There are prescription drugs for pets that you can get from your veterinarian. There is also the over the counter drug Dimenhydrinate, also known as Dramamine. You can give your pet the same type of Dramamine as for for adults. About 30 to 50 milligrams is the recommendation for medium size to large dogs and about 10 to 15 milligrams for smaller dogs and cats. Dramamine should be given about an hour before you leave. Many dogs will be less carsick if you let the dog look out the window and/or let some fresh air hit the dog in the face. For some dogs, by distracting the dog with a new and exciting dog toy or treat, they will overcome their fear of riding in a car.

Potty Breaks

Don't forget to take breaks for the dog to go potty. Take your time letting the pet find just the right spot to do his or her business, it may take longer at a rest stop or other unfamiliar place, especially if the area is frequented by many other dogs and animals. Take a quick jog for a few minutes to rid the pet of excess energy, if needed. Also, in unfamiliar places, keep your dog on the leash at all times.

Red Alert

You must not ever leave your pet in a vehicle when the outside temperature is even slightly warm for more than 30 minutes. Your vehicle will act almost like an oven and the inside temperature of a vehicle sitting in the sun, even when it's only a little warm outside is often too much for a pet to stand. In fact, it is illegal in many states.

Green Travel And Tourism

All About Green Travel

What exactly is meant by a phrase like Green Travel? Green Travel can mean anything from environmentally responsible motor cars to eco-friendly transportation fuels, to responsible eco-tourism options, sustainable travel or stays in hotels and facilities that are environmentally conscious.

Read on to find some great options on the Internet where you, the environmentally-responsible traveler, can enhance your knowledge and continue to seek the smartest, most planet-conscious choices available when you travel.

Why Green Travel Matters

Tourism, in contemporary times, is a tremendously growth-oriented industry, and is among the world's largest, with spending figures estimated at over five hundred billion per year in recent years. Because of the overwhelming size of the industry globally, millions of people are employed within its ranks, and are therefore of great concern when it comes to responsible, eco-conscious decisions.

Such lofty statistics all begin with local, individual choices - where people spend their money when they travel, during their travel and the message that their actions send out to global populations. The impact of global travel, when geared toward the positive, can be terrific - including when tourism's dollars go to the enhancement of local populations, or when travelers return home with a fresh take on other cultures, communities and environments, for instance.

How Tourism and Travel Become "Sustainable Tourism and Travel"

WTTC Associations such as the World Travel and Tourism Council in London, England, offer world travelers a wealth of information on sustainable and green tourism. The mission statement of the organization speaks to their goals: "Raising awareness of the importance of Travel & Tourism, promoting synergies between the public and private sector, generating profit as well as protecting natural, social and cultural environment [these] are the fundamental components of [their] mission, as outlined in the Blueprint for New Tourism."

Whenever you travel, do what you can to extend the extra effort to ask questions about the businesses that service your trip: from hotels to tours to restaurants and more. Find out what you can about the impact of their businesses on the environment, in terms of both the physical and cultural aspects. No set of universal standards or guidelines currently exists to ensure that those in the travel and tourism industry world-wide operate according to environmentally conscious principles.

So What Is Ecotourism and Can It Help?

With a greater emphasis placed on the environment in general, travel and tourism has also felt the weight of the green revolution. The travel and tourism industry has sprung up in places where the natural environment remains in tact and available for one to experience first-hand. At its best, ecotourism is essentially nature travel - tourism of and cultivation of appreciation for the unadulterated vistas and landscapes of the planet.

Travel Insurance for Over 65

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Traditionally holiday or travel insurance for UK residents has been looked upon as a "luxury" or an "extra". However many are now starting to realise that holiday cover for a foreign trip is an essential part of any travel booking. Accidents and illnesses can happen to anyone, anytime. Its bad enough if it happens in the UK with your friends and family around you and free healthcare available on the NHS, but what if it happens abroad? What about airport/airline strikes, breakdown on the way to the airport so you miss your flight? What if a relative becomes seriously ill and you find you cannot travel after booking a non refundable package? Holiday cover is now so cheap that it would be foolish not to be covered. This is especially important for senior travel.

There are many different types of travel insurance available, but the two main types are single and annual trip cover. Single trip insurance basically means you are covered for a specific period of travel i.e. two weeks for a specific holiday, whereas an annual travel cover will cover you for the entire year for any trips you may take. As you would expect, annual cover is more expensive, however if you normally have multiple breaks abroad (lucky you!) then it can work out cheaper for you.

In addition to this ther are different levels of cover available of both annual and single trip policies. For instance many policies will offer cover for winter sports such as skiing or even adventure sports such as climbing, there are also now policies which will cover older travellers such as those 65 and over, even with pre-existing medical conditions. Infact 65,70,75,80 or even 85 years old and over can now be covered simply and cheaply.

The actual coverage will vary from company to company, however a "standard" coverage would likely include: holiday cancellation due to emergency, medical costs due to sickness or injury, lost baggage, theft of personal effects including passport, credit cards etc. Some will cover losses due to natural disasters, however check the small print carefully as the author found to his cost during a trip to Florida a few years ago, hurricanes are not covered on some plans as they are "an act of god"! Other exclusions I noticed after the fact on this particular plan were any losses caused by terrorist activity, so be warned always check the small print.

The author is a "sun lover" and has been travelling abroad for over 30 years. Although travel insurance has been a problem nowadays even for seniors it is affordable and simple to purchase without paying through the nose - check out cheap travel insurance for over 65 here.

Kenya Travel - Is Kenya Currently Safe For Travelers?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

(January 3rd, 2008) - December-January is tourist high season in Kenya. As a result of the riots after the Kenya elections, many tourist wonder: Is traveling to Kenya safe? Although every traveler must make up his own mind, this article provides background information so you can reach your own decision.

Riots After Probably Election Fraud

After the Kenya elections of December 27th, riots have broken out that have caused more than 300 deaths in the week after the elections. Angry people went to the streets after evidence of election fraud by the current President, Mwai Kibaki. While the riots appear to be local, and most of the country is quiet, public life has largely come to halt. Shops have been plundered and many roads have been closed by either government forces or armed citizen groups. Airport travel has been limited, too.

One British traveler who returned from Kenya after the violence started, said: "I don't think we realised how much rioting was going on until we drove through some of it in Mombasa. I was terrified. I just wanted to get out of there, totally and utterly." Another was quoted as: "We came towards the ferry on the south side of Mombasa. There were lots of burning tyres in the road. We got trapped in the riots for a little while - people were banging clubs on the side of the van - but we got through. We had to stay in Mombasa airport for the night."

Background Of The Kenya Election Violence

Kenyans are angry because of evidence of election fraud by current Kenyan President Kibaki. His main challenger, Raila Odinga, was leading in the polls, and he had a small lead in the first election results that were presented in the days after December 27th.

However, the election commission suddenly announced Kibaki to be the winner. European election watchers said there were clear hints of fraud and asked for an impartial investigation.

Kibaki refused an investigation and quickly reinstalled himself. Odinga has refused to call for a stop to the riots, saying that if Kibaki would step down or allow an international investigation, the riots would stop automatically.
