I commute into Southwark for work every day from Watford Met tube station. I get a monthly season ticket for the tube from Zone A (Watford) to Zone 1 for about £176. It is about £100 a month cheaper than using rail from Watford Junction rail station.
Parking at Watford Met station is also cheaper (or at least it used be, not sure what parking charges are like at Watford Junction anymore).
As a footnote, if you a buy a tube monthly season ticket, you have to use an Oyster card. Watford Junction is scheduled to start accepting Oyster Cards in November when the Silverlink Metro service is handed over to Transport for London.
Yes get a season ticket, but make sure it's on an Oyster card!!! They're far cheaper. It depends where you live in Watford - it has a tube and national rail station so choose whichever is closer. National rail will involve an overland train and a tube journey but I think you can use an Oyster season ticket for the entire journey. Also, Chelsea doesn't just have its own tube station...Sloane Square? Kensington? Find out.
It is cheapest to go by Tube. For the cheapest fares, buy a yearly Season Ticket. You will pay less than 1/2 of the daily fare and you can use it 24 hours, seven days a week. You can also use it on buses, night buses and trams as well. If you can't afford the yearly Season Ticket, get a quarterly or monthly one but the yearly is the cheapest. You could ask your employer if they do Season Ticket Loans. Many employers offer loans to cover the cost of the yearly ticket and you don't pay any interest on it.
ohh thats long and expensive on the tube watford is in zone 6A and you pay more at peak time. & to top it off local public transport here does not accept oyester card so you have to ad on the extra cost of getting to watford tube station which is out in the sticks and only connected with a bus that runs from 0730 to 0930 then 1630 to 1830 and pay as much as £2.30 each way to get to the tube just for the privelege.
it depends which part of chelsea but i found the best & cheapest way in the long run, is
Watford junction, fast train 23 mins to Euston, then using a oyester card, tube & bus to chelsea depending which part you need.
it sucks I know but as we cant use an oyester card around watford , only heading to london its a waste for this zone unless working weekends as well & equalises after paying the train fair for 5 days a week. so its catct 22, me personaly if im going to pay the premium forced on living here then I want to get their quicker too.

Daily travel you need an oyster card.
