the global work and travel co says they can probably send me to canada in 2009 to work in a ski resort. they are a work and travel company, but say they do not charge anything. does anyone know if theres a catch to this free service?

Hi there,

Funnily enough, I used to work in their Sydney office a few months ago.

The Global Work & Travel Co. actually does provide a free job placement service. There is no catch, except you will have to pay your own travel expenses: airfares, insurance and visa etc.

They are probably Australia's top company if you're looking at work and travelling in Canada, USA or the UK. They are one of the most used companies by employers overseas looking to employee people on working holiday programs.

In Australia, it's actually illegal to charge for finding and organising jobs, so if you ever come across other companies charging a consultancy fee or placement fee, then you have to watch out. When I was there, we had an ex-staff turn competitor who would be charging a $600 consultancy fee for example. - then she was shut down and I don't think any of her clients ended up getting a job, nor their $600 back.

The Global Work & Travel Co. actually has some great ties with some of Canada's leading ski resorts and great hotels, and it is the employers who pay Global for providing the staff. Thats where they make their money if you are wondering how they provide a free service to job seekers.

They also have a partnership with a travel agency called Ten Travel who offer great value-for-money packages for those heading to Canada. They're very flexible, safer and cheaper than going through the bigger, more known travel agencies.

Although I haven't been on a working holiday program before, I wouldn't recommend looking anywhere else if you're looking for a secure, hassle free working holiday.

I hope this helps you.

Ive got a feeling this 'ex employee' is actually a current employee. Do not use this company. They are a bunch of criminals and do everything in their power to rip you off. Guaranteed. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081207201842AANskS9&kid=J4xSAW7KIFY8sGUr7nW8&s=comm&date=2009-06-16+10%3A50%3A17&.crumb=

this company sounds totaly suss!!! when i applyied they tried to get to pay up right away

& ive heard alot of strange things about them and if you look up so called 'good reviews' of global work and travel its strange As there all in the same type and style of writing and posted arund the same time http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081207201842AANskS9&kid=GZ9xIXLeBWUOSTlJnS3h&s=comm&date=2009-08-08+23%3A27%3A59&.crumb=

Hard to say. Get the correct name of the company, google it up to find out where it is, and then check with your local Better Business Bureau to see what kind of reports they have had about them.

It would be unlikely that they operate a free service because they have to make their money somehow - but, that said, there are some companies in the personnel business who charge the employer, not the employee, for services. Better check carefully though, before you commit to anything.

I think so. You can't work anywhere in Canada without a work visa or SIN (Social Insurance Number).

Yep. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Don't trust them!
