I personally think it should be tax deductible for the following reason,
It is an approved Employee Assistance Program;
It directly relates to the income producing activities;
The outcome of the program will improve the work performance;
Also if your employer paid for the counselling, the work related counselling will be exempted from Fringe Tax Benefit.

As per the ATO website information,
You can claim the cost of travelling:
from your normal workplace to an alternative workplace â" for example, a clientâ™s premises â" while still on duty and back to your normal workplace or directly home
If the counselling is part of your work or training, the travel expenses should be deductible.
No, the issues might be work related but that doesn't make the travel deductible.
