No money travel business? Pregnant and need to work from home. No money to invest.?

I am pregnant and need to work from home. I would like to promote a travel business and get paid for reffering clients. Then maybe after so many refferals I can purchase in the oppourtunity. I have a lot of drive and ambition just no money. If anyone knows a business I can promote that will be benificial to not only me but the clients I send, let me know. I'm willing to start right away and put in plenty of time. I am working now but plan to quit soon. I just found out so I have to give notice. But in 2 weeks I'll need to be able to make some kind of income.

YES! There are legit work at home options…….I looked for 2 years before I found a good one! Learn from my experiences….lol

I’m a stay at home mom of two little girls a 1 year old and a 3 year old. I work about 15-18 hours per week for a National Medical Benefits Company. I have been with the company for 6 months and am now making over $2500 a month! In your first month, depending on how many hours you can work I have seen people make anywhere from $500-$2000. And your income will increase each month because we get paid residual income as well. If I continue on as I am going at the end of my 2nd year with the company I will be making $75,000 a year! My friend Becky started 2 years before me. She is now making $95,000 a year.

The best part is they have 401(k), direct deposit and a benefits package. In addition, there are no products, no hard selling or pushing, no cold calling and no telemarketing! That was VERY important to me.

I absolutely love working with them and I can't believe I am making what I am making and in so few hours per week. The neat thing is there are other people on your team that you work with so you are never alone. The support is great but I have made wonderful friends as well. I think that’s important too, especially being at home!

I was a bit apprehensive at first because I know a lot of companies are not legit but this company is the number one National Medical Benefits Company in the US. They are a member of the US Chamber of Commerce which is very impressive. Also they were featured in “The New York Times”, “Wall Street Journal” and the “American Medical Review”. Even “60 Minutes” with Morley Safer did a big special on them!

Even more then all this is they are accepted at over 100,000 retailers nation wide. These are fortune 500 companies like Sears, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Wal-mart and more. These companies would never work with a company that was any thing less then reputable. That made me feel very good about working with them knowing they were accepted at the stores I frequent. Also now of course being with them I get the benefits for free and I saved over $150 on my last visit to the dentist! That’s just a beautiful perk! : - )

When I first started I just felt very safe with them…. that and my friend was already making so much money with them! But at this point I feel a sense of security financially that our family has never had before. That plus LOVING what you do? What could be better?

Check them out! Just type in www.workathomeplus.net in your web browser.

I know some people want to work from home with no cost involved. That unfortunately won’t happen as all the work from home opportunities are home businesses not jobs (Just Over Broke). We know that there is cost involved with running any business but one main reason I chose Ameriplan is because our costs are SO low. It is less then $100 bucks to start this lucrative home business and that was important to me because I didn’t have hundreds or even thousands to start a home business. I would think most people don’t as well.

Good luck in your search. Ameriplan is an amazing company to work with so I hope you check them out!

Work From Home jobs:

Work from home jobs come in three catagories. Two of which are legitimate and can be done part-time or fulltime and can be either primary or secondary incomes. The third type, is highly rumored to exist, but in actuallity does not.

1) Work from home or telecommute. These jobs are nearly identical to jobs outside the home. They are skill based jobs that require a wide range of degrees and experience. Primarily they fall in the technology sector. Network Administration, Programmers, Web Designers etc. Other industries also work from the home office, though most require at least some percentage of time outside the home office. Most people practicing these types of positions have extensive outside the home experience in the same job and now have the luxery of working from home through a company that allows them to. If your interested in this type of work the best thing to do is contact your HR department and/or supervisior and discuss how this could occur and what opportunites they have that would fit your skillset. If your company doesnt have this option, look at other companies in your field and approach them about it. Failing that, if you are an exceptional employee, you can put together your own proposa
l on how your working from home can be an asset to the company and yourself.

2) Home Based Businesses. These are usually businesses where someone takes their interests and skillsets and creates a business providing a service or goods to clients. There are numerous advantages and disadvatages to a home based business. Overhead is lower than a commercial office space. You can work any hours you choose instead of being locked into standard business hours. Drawbacks include the difficulty in being able to carry out the intense workload involved in starting and growing your own business with the constant distractions that happen when working out of the same place your family lives. Also, many clients will percieve you as somehow less proffessional than someone working in a more traditional business setting. That being said, this is a quickly growing segment of the workforce as more and more people turn to home based business to supplement or be thier primary income source.

3) This is the one that doesnt exist. There are thousands of websites, many touted on these very forums offering easy work from home positions. Taking online surveys, data entry, marketing etc. They are, without exception either out and out scams or at the very least extremely overhyped and far more difficult and time consuming for the income than nearly any minimum wage job out there. If your seeking one of these jobs, put aside your heart for a moment and what you wish were possible and think about it logically. If it were truly easy to make money from home doing these things all these places advertise, why wouldnt everyone being doing it, why wouldnt you know someone personally who does it and could show you verifiable proof that it happens? Like most things in our economy, the amount of pay you recieve from performing a service is based on the number of available people who are capable of perform the task at an acceptable level compared to the number of openings that need
to be filled. If all these places out there offering these jobs are saying anyone can do it, why do they need to pay much at all to get people to do it?

Absolutely NO company that has any semblance of credibility will ever ask for any kind of fee for you to get started. Stay away from all of these. They are all scams.

Case in point the post below. Ameriplan is one of the more sophisticated scams out there. The people touting are usually very offical sounding and often times even belive in it themselves. The reality is Ameriplan is a a fraud masquarading as a legitimate health benefit provider. Its members pay a fee for the privledge of selling the so-called product. That there is a big warning sign, ANY company who requires a fee to work for them is counterintuitive. Furthermore, the supposed benefits the company offers are highly dubious and they have numerous complaints and outstanding legal suits.

There are a lot of Get Rich Quick schemes out there under the heading of "work-at-home". You really need to be careful and do your homework when you're checking out WAH companies. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

When you're looking at WAH opportunities most will either be as an employer/independent contractor or an opportunity to own your own business. One area you may want to explore is doing call center work from home. Generally, you are either paid an hourly rate or a per minute rate based on the amount of time you're engaged in a conversation with a customer. Some companies pay you as an employee while others compensate you as an independent contractor.

I decided to start my own business by developing an information-based website. I found a company that guides you through the process step-by-step and provides easy to use software for someone who has never built a website before. I'm extremely happy with the company. This isn't a GRQ scheme and it does involve a lot of hard work, but it is definitely paying off. Here is a link to more information if you're interested http://wahm.sitesell.com/Lisa1.html58.html

Caveat emptor applied thousands of years ago and it applies even more today.

Travel industry is one of the most competitive around. What turned me off the most was the fact that most people travel just once or twice a year, which means I would have to have very large data base of customers to start with or very large advertising budget to develop one. These findings lead me to the conclusion that best product or service to promote was the one used by my customers every day or at least once a month.

So, the best and the least expensive way to make money anywhere on-line or off-line is in developing your own customer base with a product that is used over and over again. To gain the customers and their confidence is fairly lengthy process and the most costly. However once you gain a customer he stays with you and keeps ordering hence you keep making money over and over and over again at no additional expense or cost to you.

Look around you --- isn't that what i.e. beverage manufacturers do? When the bottle is empty, you reach for a new one. Or look in your fridge. What kind of ketchup do you have there? And when the bottle is empty what do you buy again? Different brand or do you stick to the same brand and the quality? Exactly the same principle applies to every reusable product.

My advice to you and anybody who wants to make good living from the comfort of their home (I certainly do for many years now) is to investigate Network Marketing Industry. Stay away from pre-launch deals and so called ground floor opportunities unless you are already very experienced in marketing. Find yourself a company that is ---

7 stars enterprise --- 1*the right reusable product not available in stores directly shipped to your customers; 2*the right timing; 3*the right management with your own successful mentor; 4*the company being at least 3 to 5 years in business; 5*the right compensation plan; 6*the right cause and the mission; and 7*the company should not be publicly traded.

Here is one generic report about Network Marketing companies, which most of the flunkies out there hate with passion because it tells it like it is. You may want to download it. It's free of charge to you.

What is a career/job I can pursue,w/flexible hours,or work from lap-top, to also travel w/boyfriend on tour???

He travels w/a Beatles tribute band & my current job is a 40 hr straight up "real" job ,but he will be traveling more & we want to be together. I basically do data entry 4 a cabinet dept. in a lumber yard. something where I could be flexible 2 travel when needed, but have benefits too.....help???

This a great opportunity to become indespensible to the band and open up nice career opportunities at the same time. Learn everything you can about the band, put together a nice guide with photos that they can sell before or after each show. Become a marketing and promotion pro for the band by taking online courses or reading books. Start a band newletter and a mailing list. In short there are probably many opportunities if you think creatively. Also you can learn to use online dropshippers for auctions or even learn to play instruments and be a part of the show.

No band wants a bandmates girlfriend to tour with them.

That is a surefire way for ypur boyfriend to lose his gig.

Stay home where you belong.

How do you find agencies that employ warehouse type work that, put you up in hotel, pay perdiem, and travel?

I once worked for a company named Strom Engineering on a temporary basis operating a forklift for the Ralph's and Food4Less Strike a few years back. They paid for my travel from Chicago to LosAngeles, paid for hotel, and per diem for food. I was wondering if anyone else knew of any other companies like this or on where to look for them. Thanks :)

Google Americas Job Bank. You sound as though you are prior service. You could also google the state national guard. For example MA National Guard. Go to the HRO section or employment section. Most states will have civilian department of defense jobs. Good luck!

Go to the Gulf.

Has anyone ever use the InterExchage program to work and travel australia? what was your experience?

My boyfriend and I are planing to travel to Australia for about a year and we found a program called InterExchage where they provide with a bunch of services to help you find a job and visa assistance.

Has anyone used this program? or does anyone know of any good programs that they or someone they know has used for a similar situations?

We are just a little skeptical because the way the economy is right now, we are not sure we might be able to find a job.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I haven't heard of anyone's experience with them but you definitely won't need any help with your visa if you're from a country that has Working Holiday arrangements with Australia. WH visa are fast and easy to get and only cost AUD$195 if you do the application yourself.

http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/visa-options.htm

Jobs are another matter. Most working holiday makers don't stay in one city for very long but travel around picking up casual work in food/bar service, fruitpicking etc. as they go. If that's how you want to approach it, I can't see how any agency could be of much help and that type of work shouldn't be too badly affected by a recession. I guess they could be useful if you're looking for longer term jobs but I'd want some guarantees before I forked out any money. Job recruiters in Australia don't ever charge the employee and if the jobs are available to InterExchange, then they should be available to you too.

How does time travel work? and where can i find a flux capacitor?

seriously? how does it work? i talk about this every day with like 9 diffrent people, and it seriously only raises more questions. WTF MAN? is anyone a professor? a smartass answer will suffice. just anything really... any insight?

Are you serious? "Back to the Future" is just a movie.

EDIT: Ok, if you're serious. How does time travel work? Right now, it doesn't. There is currently no way to travel in time except to wait for the Earth to revolve and move us into the future at a 1:1 ratio.

The flux capacitor is a fictional item dreamed up for the "Back to the Future" movie series.

umm i didnt really understand your question but time travel so far is impossible and i dont think will ever be possible, it has nothing to do with a flux capacitor. One would have to reach the speed of light or faster to travel into the future which many ppl. still think that reaching the speed of light will not be possible or crazy things will happen. I really cant explain everything but look into theoretical physics if you are really into this stuff. there are some great youtube videos out there too. good luck

How far is too far to travel for work?

I recently moved to a new state to take care of my elderly father. Since this is a college town, finding jobs that pay more than 10.00 per hour is hard. I don't have a college degree and I have an 11 year old child. I found a job that is 35 miles away. They are paying me 12.00 per hour. Gas prices in Kansas are around $2.03 per gallon and I drive a Saturn with a 13 gallon tank. I took this job b/c I needed something asap with medical benefits. Now I am have second thoughts. Is this job worth the traveling distance? There is no room for growth here, but it pays my bills. This is my first experience with traveling this far for work. I adverage 30-35 dollars a week in gas. Let me know what you think. Thanks

I live about 30 miles from where I work. A lot of people I know do the same thing because the city is where the jobs are. The gas prices balance out with what we are saving in taxes. (The property and sales taxes are higher in the county where the city is). Try making up a budget. It can help you decide. It is all up to you and what you are willing to do.

Have you thought about trying to get a job at the college? Even if it pays a little less, you probably can take classes for free. Getting college credits and perhaps a degree someday can help you find a better paying job.

I believe if it is more than an hour away from your residing place then that is far too distant.

Let's see -- 35 miles away, that should take you about 45 minutes. I used to travel by bus 1-1/2 hours one way. Left at 7 am, got home about 6:30/6:45 - that was normal commute from NJ to NYC. What seems to be the problem. Bus fare was around $80.00 per month.

If it causes you to miss all 3 meals with your family then it's too far. If you're single, move closer to your job.

Is there work being done to use nuclear power for space travel?

I understand the size of the average nuclear reactor is much to large for an airplane, not to mention the risk of an accident over a populated area, but is there any work toward nuclear powered space travel?

There have been research studies in the use of nuclear power to propel spacecraft since the early 1950s. Try an internet search on "Project Rover."

Also, as mentioned by someone, there are electric power units that use radioactive material to produce heat and then convert the heat to electricity. It's basically a dirty bomb in a box with a thermocouple to collect the heat. I am sure there is information available, and I would start at www.nasa.gov.

The whole idea is dangerous, of course, and researchers are still struggling with techniques for managing the risk. The original Rover engine would have irradiated half the atmosphere if launched from the surface. A more likely scenario is a launching from orbit for a longer range mission.

There are possibilities, but lots of work to be done.

No.

The problem is that if the rocket has trouble during launch and blows up on the pad or within the atmosphere, all the radioactive material would scatter through the atmosphere.

So generally nuclear power is not being considered.

The has been no spacecraft, manned or unmanned, to date that has been powered by a nuclear reactor. There have been ones which have had chunks of radioactive elements, such as plutonium, which have been used to generate heat which is then turned into electrical power. Cassini had some of these modules.

Project Prometheus [they may have changed the name] planned to go to Jupiter is supposedly being designed to have an on-board nuclear reactor; of the same type as on a modern nuclear submarine. This will allow the vehicle to not only have electrical power, but propulsion as needed. It will allow controllers to go take a look at things a second or third or however many times they want. Current missions only have so much propellant. Say controllers get a picture that shows something interesting they really want to look at more closely. Well, by the time they have received and processed the picture, the vehicle more than likely has moved on in its mission and there's no going back because of propellant restraints. An on-board reactor would allow them to go back and take a better look.

The nuclear device talked about in the first question (the one on space probes) is called a thermoelectric device. It is not based off of any form of nuclear reactor. It utilizes the heat (decay) given off by a rdioactive source (uranium, etc.), to produce power for the space craft.

Also, the issue is not that there is not enough sunlight to power the probe, but that there are times when the probe is behind a planet and is blocked from the sun.

The current application of this type of nuclear power would not be suitable for large space craft.

My answer is a bit of a corrective--some of the answerers have got the facts wrong. AZ is right about the power supplies--but I gather you're talking about propulsion, particuarly for manned spacecraft.

Here's the current status: No actual development projects are underway--but there are ongoing theoritical studies. But--back in 1968, the DOD did biuld a full scale research prototype (called the NERVA). This engine was successfully tested and produced a thrust of 25000 lbs with a specific impulse of 850 (by comparision, the most efficient engine so far for a manned spacecraft is the Shuttle Main Engine: 453 ) The power level of the engine was about 4 megawatts. It used liquid hydrogen as a "working fluid"--the hydrogen was pumped directly through a lightweight nuclear reactor to heat it.

Thre is no indication that a nuclear engine would be particularly prone to "blowing up" and would NOT produce a radiioactive exaust. That last surprises some, but the reason is that to become radioactive, a substance has to undergoe a nuclear transformation--and hydrogen can't do that (at least not under those conditions. The only way the exhaust woudl be radioactive is if the engine malfunctioned.

Such engines are not likely to be useful for srface-to-orbit ships--as you said, there's the danger of a crash. Also, although relatively powerful, they are also heavy--and require additional weight for sheilding the crew from the reactor. However, they may prove very useful for future interplanetary exploration missions--or perhaps even for regular flights to the moon when and if we establish a permanant presence there.

As for the obvious question-why didn't anyone develop this if they had a working prototype in 1968. Answer--at the time, there was a great deal of concern--the long term effects of radiation were just beginning to be fully understood. And since the Space Shuttle was first launched, development of any advanced spacecraft has been stalled--since 1994, the GOP Congress has cancelled every program NASA had.

Virtually all the space probes that have been sent to Jupiter or beyond are or have been nuclear powered. Sunlight is too feeble to provide power at those distances.

Of course, that's not what provides the thrust for course changes...but it does power all of the instrumentation.

Theoretical mostly as far as I know. There haven't been any prototypes or anything to my knowledge. They're still in the "maybe this'll work" stage of things. I believe they're also hoping to use fusion, rather than fission, as the energy output would be quite a bit higher.

Check out the link below for a description of various projects NASA is working on using nuclear power for spaceflight. The article contains links to a few of NASA's projects so you can find out what they're up to.

There are also a number of designs for ships that use controlled nuclear explosions to "push" the ship, rather than having a nuclear reactor on board. The ship would basically have a large sail somewhere on it, possibly on the rear and shaped like a hallow half-sphere. A nuclear bomb would be launched from the ship and detonated at a safe distance and the energy would be caught by the sail and push the ship.

Hope that helps.

How can I take a year off from work to travel?

Saw an article in a men's health magazine on this last year - such travel looked quite viable... and wonderful.

Wished I had saved the article.

I'm an experienced special ed. teacher (behavior disorders and autism) and part-time Rolfer/Masseuse with a strong desire to experience the world.

Can a Canadian LPN work in the USA as a travel nurse? Or do you have to be an RN?

I would like to work in the states as an LPN and so far I have only found information for RN's wanting to work in the USA. I would like to do it as an assignment with a travel nurse company. Any suggestions or websites would be greatly appreciated.

I believe if you have gotten your LPN degree in Canada, you may need to find out if you need to get one in the US. I don't believe they carry over from country to country. I used to work as a CNA and if I wanted to work as one in a different state, I had to get a CNA liscense in that state. I am not sure which website(s) to check out but I hope this was of some help.

I did find an online listing of states that Canadian LPNs can work in. The best thing to do is contact the state you want to work in's LPN licensing board. Most of the states were, no offense US, states you probably won't want to work in, but the Virgin Islands were on the list! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070603142224AAAKDeE&kid=TZ53Am3bBlhrUmVbsekx&s=comm&date=2008-06-18+07%3A48%3A07&.crumb=

In the U.S., being a LPN and a RN are not even close in comparison...it takes 3 to 4 years to become a RN here...and you have to pass "State Boards" to even get your license....I am not even sure what a travel nurse is...but as an RN, I have told you what I know...You can be a LPN at almost any place, but being Canadian you might have a problem with the licensing policy..

good luck

How can I work and travel the US at the same time?

I have a BA ... I don't want to drive a truck or work for an airline.

Suggestions?

Drive for Greyhound.

Join the military.

Get in Sales with a company that has a large sales force

I work in public accounting and I travel all the time. You made no mention of what your BA is in. Without that, no one knows what you are qualified to do. Hopefully you didn't waste your time in a worthless major like sociology or art history.

How far do you travel to work?...... i drive 55 miles to work?

Who travels the shortest distance and the longest everyday, i travel 55 miles to work any one beat that.?

I cycle 4 1/2 miles to work.

Not that i'm ungreatful for the 10 points but how the hell did I manage this one? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20061021182606AAznbV9&kid=TZEnXDG_WTgIMWESYuA2Q7pb0ZKcqLnplWaUdroRzouMwnVeplA5&s=comm&date=2006-10-31+08%3A59%3A47&.crumb=

I travel 39 miles to work, 6 days a week. Before I moved a little closer to work I was driving 62 miles one way. Now I drive about 6 miles to what I used to consider my half-way point. A tip for anyone that drives these distances.... Books on tape are great.

http://uk.rd.yahoo.com/oa/*http://uk.download.yahoo.com/fi/fu/oa/manu1.jpg

I work from home :)

I travel about 1 1/2 miles to work everyday. I certainly can't beat 55 miles......I wouldn't even consider driving that far. I put $5.00 worth of gas in my GMC Sonoma once a week, whether it needs it or not.

I work in space.

i travel about 500 yards to get to work

it takes me approximately two to three minutes to walk to work. it takes longer to drive, which i do on night shift cos I'm a lazy git

drive about 3 miles to work but i drive in total on average 50-75 miles per day as I am a delivery driver.

35 miles each way

I'm not sure of the exact mileage (or kilometrage) but I earn close to 8000 airmiles to and from work. I think that has to be one of the longest commutes and it takes me upto 48hrs.

OK I do work month on month off but I think it should still count.

Once I am at work it takes me about 2 minutes to walk from the accomodation to the office (3 if I walk the long way), do I have both the longest and shortest commute??

I walk approximately 100 meters ( I think it's less than 100 meters) from where I work. I work in a hotel then there is a parking area in between the hotel and the house where I live. this has to be the shortest!

I'm on the road, and I travel anything from 25 miles to 200 miles to work. I often clock in excess of 1000 miles/week.

Not sure when I get the time to actually work??!

i drive 4 miles

May I suggest moving?

I live in Tampa and right now - it is 26 miles and 45 minutes due to traffic lights..........

I travel about 5,000 miles...but then I am an astronaut after all! the commute can get a bit boring sometimes, all of the stars look the same

I live in the Midlands, and every day of the year I drive to Glasgow airport, fly to Jersey, ferry to San Marlo, ferry to Jersey, fly to Glasgow and drive home - a shoe box in the middle of the M6

I walk a few feet to the addition we put on the house for my childminding (daycare to Americans) business.

only 25 but it's enough

What is the cheapest tube ticket from Watford to London Chelsea? travel daily to work (peak time)?

Is it cheaper to travel by tube or by rail? Many thanks in advance for help, I cannot find the answer on internet:( Travelling daily to work (peak time).

I commute into Southwark for work every day from Watford Met tube station. I get a monthly season ticket for the tube from Zone A (Watford) to Zone 1 for about £176. It is about £100 a month cheaper than using rail from Watford Junction rail station.

Parking at Watford Met station is also cheaper (or at least it used be, not sure what parking charges are like at Watford Junction anymore).

As a footnote, if you a buy a tube monthly season ticket, you have to use an Oyster card. Watford Junction is scheduled to start accepting Oyster Cards in November when the Silverlink Metro service is handed over to Transport for London.

Yes get a season ticket, but make sure it's on an Oyster card!!! They're far cheaper. It depends where you live in Watford - it has a tube and national rail station so choose whichever is closer. National rail will involve an overland train and a tube journey but I think you can use an Oyster season ticket for the entire journey. Also, Chelsea doesn't just have its own tube station...Sloane Square? Kensington? Find out.

It is cheapest to go by Tube. For the cheapest fares, buy a yearly Season Ticket. You will pay less than 1/2 of the daily fare and you can use it 24 hours, seven days a week. You can also use it on buses, night buses and trams as well. If you can't afford the yearly Season Ticket, get a quarterly or monthly one but the yearly is the cheapest. You could ask your employer if they do Season Ticket Loans. Many employers offer loans to cover the cost of the yearly ticket and you don't pay any interest on it.

ohh thats long and expensive on the tube watford is in zone 6A and you pay more at peak time. & to top it off local public transport here does not accept oyester card so you have to ad on the extra cost of getting to watford tube station which is out in the sticks and only connected with a bus that runs from 0730 to 0930 then 1630 to 1830 and pay as much as £2.30 each way to get to the tube just for the privelege.

it depends which part of chelsea but i found the best & cheapest way in the long run, is

Watford junction, fast train 23 mins to Euston, then using a oyester card, tube & bus to chelsea depending which part you need.

it sucks I know but as we cant use an oyester card around watford , only heading to london its a waste for this zone unless working weekends as well & equalises after paying the train fair for 5 days a week. so its catct 22, me personaly if im going to pay the premium forced on living here then I want to get their quicker too.

25p

Daily travel you need an oyster card.

Do the space bag travel bags actually work?

i was wondering if they do because i travel a lot, and i could save the extra money on the extra weight and the multiple bags. please answer this question only if you have actually used them, i have heard many things on websites and i can't believe any of them. thank you in advance.

space bags will not save anything as to the weight because "squashed" clothing weighs the same. I went on a two week trip and had serious limits as to how much the bag could weigh and the size of it. I found that with self restraint, you can get two weeks worth in one bag if you pack properly. Go to ask.com and type in how to pack a suitcase. It involves stacking shirts together and folding all into one package. (Sleeves to center, bottom half folded up) I own the space bags and do not like the travel ones. You have to really work at rolling out the air manually and I ended up with wrinkles. The above mentioned technique got me all the way to Europe with all my shirts unwrinkled.

Someone bought these for me but they really don't work any better than just putting your clothes in a clear garbage bag and sitting on it to push the air out... I think they're a waste. Your baggage will weigh just as much, it's only letting the air out, and you have to be really really careful about folding your clothes because it will get really wrinkled in there.

I'd try clear bags first. Then, if you really need the space then go for it, but it wasn't worth it to me.

They dont work as well as the regular space bags that you use with the vacuum, I does give you a little more space in your luggage but not much, especially if you are a good packer. Space bags work by removing the air and compressing. So unless you are packing pillows, blankets and bulky sweaters you are not saving that much space if you pack right

we go on cruises a lot and my mom just uses regular ziploc bags and roles them. they are cheaper than the vacuum bags and they work better

What paper work do I need to travel to mexico via airplane???

My mother n law has her green card here and she is wanting to travel to mexico to visit her family there, what all does she need to travel to mexico via air plane??? I know she will need her pass port but does she need anything else she she is a permanent resident here????

you can get the passport but when you start coming back it will be hard for her because there can always be problem when the person is not a u.s citizen.

She should bring both her passport and her green card.

I'd give you the state department link, but of course that ability is currently not working on YA.

What is the best strategy to use if you want to work in a travel agency?

I earned a Certified Travel Agent fro ICTA with specialties in both the Caribbean Islands and The Pacific Rim (Hawaii, Fiji, Australia, NZ}. I have a little Travel Agency experience but that was several years ago.

Why not try doing the Travel Agency from home. Since you already have experience, you can work towards building your own travel agency business from home. Your experience can be an asset in travel booking businesses like Traverus.

If you have time, visit the websites.

How do home-based travel agencies work?

i'm currently working full time but would like to explore the possibility of having a home-based travel business.

Below are some links on travel that maybe helpful.

http://www.entrepreneur.com/startingabusiness/businessideas/startupkits/article190464.html

http://www.18ktravel.com

http://www.entrepreneur.com/startingabusiness/businessideas/article32024.html

The home based travel businesses that you're seeing are probably the MLM ones. Depending on the travel business you're in, you'll have a site that people book travel through or you'll be selling travel packages. Since they're MLM's, you'll also be able to sell people their own "travel agency" as well. I found this review of the 2 biggest travel agency home businesses:

http://travel.meetup.com/421/messages/boards/thread/2811868

I hope this helps!

I love to travel. About 18 months ago, in addition to my full time job, I started as an independent agent working for a host. I work under the umbrella of a very small company who has been in business for 28 years, but I think in the long run, I will go over to Nexion, as my host. I need more...

Now to all the seasoned Home Base Agents, please, give any and all advice you see fit.

What training do you suggest????

Eventually I would like to be a destination specialist and do it all full time. I have had it with the office life.

Thanks

Im trying to pick a major for college, and i wanna work with people but i also wanna travel?

I need help to find out what profession to go into! Right now i work taking care of the mentally handicapped and i like this job, but its not for me as a career!

How about a travel rep? Get to travel the worls, stay in various resorts/hotels and show people around the areas and guide them on their holidays.

Travel nurse. They choose and pick when and where to go. Pay is superb like any other nursing position.

Journalist. Particularly travel journalist. You meet a lot of people. Pay likely stinks until you've become quite established.

Sales. Big corporate sales that is. Not a job for everyone. Can be financially rewarding if you have what it takes.

if you are happy serving and helping other people, take a career on humanities and social works.

Take ROTC while in college. Once you graduate, you're guaranteed a job with plenty of opportunity to work with a wide variety of people and to travel extensively. I suggest NROTC or AFROTC.

Well Medical Sonography (ultrasound) is a great choice. You get the benefit of helping people, plus there are many traveling tech agencies that can send you all over the world, wherever you were needed. Many agencies pay to have your belongings moved and if you choose, you could avoid moving things back and forth and they would provide you with a furnished apartment wherever they sent you. It's a pretty great deal! Good luck!

If you don't mind working long and/or add hours, go into the hospitality industry. You might work on a cruise ship and sail around some of the most desirable destinations in the world; or, you might get a job with a large hotel chain and travel around to visit them.

Many colleges offer degrees in hotel management, etc.

I want to work for an airline for free travel?

My boyfriend has been moving around different states for school related issues. He is moving to Phoenix Arizonia and plane tickets are outragous! So I was thinking that since I am taking all online classes that I could work for an airline and fly for free. Which airline should I work for and what job should I take?

That is definitally an option.

Especially if he is far, this can really be a great way to save on airfare.

If you are not a pilot or dispatcher, you will not be able to sit in the cockpit so your travel will be space available only. As a result, sometimes it is tough to find a flight... but if you can be flexible it is a great benefit of working on an airline.

As far as jobs, it really depends on your skills. Most entry level jobs would be as a customer service agent (ticket counter or gate) or ramp agent (bags, tug, servicing, etc...)

As far as the company, try and pick a larger one who will have the most flights to the most places and that will most likely be determined by what major airport you live by.

I hope this helps answer your question and I hope all works out with your boyfriend.

While working for an airline does give you the benefit of free/cheap air travel....you should keep in mind that it can be difficult. Planes these days are so full, that it makes it hard for us to take advantage of the benefits we receive as airline personnel. It's not impossible, but it can be difficult. Another difficulty at this time is going to be finding a job with an airline. Airlines are having a rough time right now, with gas prices so high, and the economy not so great. Again, not impossible, but may be difficult. I guess it depends on what kind of experience you have. Do some research on airlines, find the ones that you are interested in working for, and then check out the career section on their websites to see if they are currently hiring. Good luck!

you dont get to fly for free just because you work for an airline....not even pilots get free flights when they are just normal passengers.

you can get it discounted, but not free.....thats just greedy.

When you work for an airline you are flying back and forth to different places....not necessarily ones you want to go to. Also my understanding is you don't spend much time at each airport so you won't get to spend any time with your boyfriend.

My advice is either to get another boyfriend or live with the situation.

Yes, you can go to work for an airline in order to get flight benefits. The non-rev system for flying is based on a couple of things.

1. Are you on your own carrier or another airlines? If you are flying on your own carrier you will have seniority of someone from another airline traveling.

2. Seniority - how long have you worked for the company? The boarding for the flights is based on seniority. Longer you have worked there the higher your seniority.

3. Does the flight have any seats available? If the flight is sold out then you will not make the flight and will be left behind. Most flights these days are oversold for every flight so it is very hard to find space to fly.

4. How many free flights do you get as an employee? You will most likely have 2 - 3 flights a year when you first start out, and that is if you are hired on as a full time employee. Part-time employees may receive less. It will vary company by company.

Think carefully about this before you start applying. Most larger airlines have 7 day a week schedules, 24 hours a day so your work shift may be 5 days in a row with Tuesday/Wednesday off. Could be 2am to 10am, could be midnight to 8am. The work shifts are also bid on by the employees and based on seniority unless you find an office job of some kind at the headquarters office for the carrier.

I have a USA work permit, and a CA ID, is it safe for me to get on an airplane to travel within the states?

I want to travel to another state for a conference. I am in the process of getting residency and already have a work permit and a state ID. I'm just worried if I can travel to another state via airplane. Can anyone help me? or point me to a website that talks about this?

If you are here legally, you are fine. If not, I wouldn't try it.

You should be fine. Just to be sure take your passport with you if the ticket agent has any futher questions.

You also might want to call the airline and ask them for there requirements to fly.

if its for work, theyll let you go. if you have an ID you can travel aroudn the states. the only thing is you cant travel outside the country without a passport.

You can travel within the US via aircraft with a properly issued state ID. If you are a foriegn national, you should carry your passport, which we will assume shows you are legally in the country.

I would keep the work permit with you, but airline and TSA won't need them.

Will an EU passport let me work and travel in britain without a visa?

I have a Dutch passport and a new zealand passport. do I need a visa to work and travel in England?

I'm unsure due to the currency differences

If you have a Dutch passport, you can legally work in the UK. All you need to do when you arrive and get settled is contact your local Job Centre to get the forms and an interview to get your National Insurance Number for tax purposes. This number is given to your employer

How Do I Travel And Work Aboard?

I m 28 and my brother is 38 we are from Malaysia, we plan to quit our job to travel and work. Can any body tell us what the processes are for people like that, is it possible? We know that visitor are not aloud to work but is there any other way? We haven’t chosen our journey yet. But I hope I can finish my travel by the age of 30.

If you want to travel to the US

You need to apply for a J-1 visa

Here's the link

http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1267.html

It depends on what you want to do and where you want to go really. If you're English skills are good, you may be able to find a job teaching others. I'm from the U.S., but I'm currently teaching English in Vietnam. Many of the schools will even pay your round-trip airfare if you sign a contract with them. The school I work for will pay round-trip airfare for a one year contract, but you may find a better deal at different schools or different countries. If you want to teach then you should get a TESOL certificate (which you can do online) and it also helps if you have a degree of some kind. Some countries have requirements that you must meet in order to get a work permit. Basically all you need to live and work in a foreign country is a work permit and a visa that allows you to work. Usually people travel with visitor visas, but if you want to work you have to get a business visa. The requirements are different for every country, so just choose which country you want to visi
t and then fill out the appropriate paperwork. When I decided to come to Vietnam, I just downloaded the forms from the Vietnamese Embassy's website in the U.S. and filled it out and mailed it to them. My visa cost around $30 I think, and now I renew my Visa every 3 months for $10. Again, the information you need will be different for every country, so just look for the forms and fee information on the Embassy's website for whatever country you want to visit. Let me know if you've got any other questions I can help you with.

What kind of job will allow me to work for 6 months then travel for a while then come back and work?

I will be graduating college soon and I have been thinking about life in general and I want to find a job that would allow me to work and then leave for a while and then come back. To some this may sound crazy but I want to in essence 'collect experiences'. Thanks for the advice.

That's what I do. I do contract work for power plants across the country. You need to learn a trade though. You can do shutdowns, which usually last about 1 - 2 months, or startups, which can last up to a year or so. Make some good cash and then come back home and do whatever you want. I just did a 5 day backpacking trip in Colorado. Check out Roadtechs.com.

Merchant seaman.

How can i get J1 visa for a job in the USA without having to go on one of those Work and travel programs?

I have gone on the program before but it is quite expensive, and I would like to do internship but using a regular visa, as i already received a social security # thru the work and travel program, do i need a J1 visa to accompany the said SSN?

in order to get a J1 you have to go through a program. it sounds like you are looking for a different kind of visa. try looking into an f-1 (you'll have to enroll in school but after you graduate you can do an internship using "optional practical training" time for about 1 year). you may also be interested in an h-1b depending on the type of job you're looking for (also with this one you wouldn't be able to start until next year on october 1st). whichever you think may be best, you should definitely get in touch with an immigration attorney because this is a very complex inquiry.

it is not relevant that you already have a ssn. for more information check out: www.uscis.gov

I am looking to travel overseas to work this summer, any suggestions?

I would love to work abroad this summer so I can make money and experience different things in other countries. Would anyone know of a program who offers such experiences, or has anyone done something relatively similar? I am open to everything. Thanks!

go to europe

disneyland paris!!!

Would you rather travel far to work but the job is pleasant OR work close to home but the job is hard?

I can't decide if I want to work in another town( a printing company) where i have to drive for half an hour on the freeway to get there. The work is quite easy and the pay is ok, meanwhile, there is one bakery near my home that i heard people say that working there is very hard, hot, dusty and the pay is excellent. It takes me only 10 minutes to get there. Any suggestions?

I prefer to work on my laptop from where ever I want. Including the beach...

On a UK work permit, can I travel to N Ireland as a tourist?

I (Indian) am in UK on a work permit visa. Can I travel to Northern Ireland as freely as I can travel to Scotland on this visa anytime. I plan to go there by last week of Dec 2008. My visa expires on 31st Dec and on 30th I am returning back to India.

You wouldn't be leaving the UK, so yes.

Northern Ireland is part of the UK.

_____

note to james: your passport says "Great Britain and Northern Ireland"

UK = Great Britain + Northern Ireland

northern ireland is not part of uk look on your passport it says uk and n.ireland n.ireland is six counties of ireland occupied by crown forces 26+6 =1 ireland yes you can travel to occupied land

Northern Ireland is part of the UK so you won't need a visa.

The Republic of Ireland is NOT part of the UK, but has an uncontrolled border, so you can travel freely there, but cannot work there.

Does your husband travel for work? How do you occupy yourself while he's gone?

I work full time, so it's not like I'm home all day, but my husband is going to be gone a few weeks at a time so I'm just looking for ideas of what to do while I have the house to myself.

I usually start with getting the house cleaned up the way I want it, LOL. I hang out with friends, I watch a lot of horror movies because he doesn't like them, I take naps (I am a housewife so I enjoy the "time off"). I spend more time on the computer than I normally do playing games and just looking stuff up. I spend more time with my mom and sister. He is normally gone for only a week when he leaves but when he goes to France, he is gone for two weeks. One time he was gone for three and the third week I found myself getting depressed, so make sure you surround yourself with friends and family if you find that happening. Make sure to stay in contact with him as much as you can, my husband couldn't call me that often from France.

When my fiance is away overseas (for anything from 2 weeks to 3 months) I work my usual full time job, and take care of my household and family as usual. The extra time available that I gain from my partner not being here (because he takes up a big space in my life when he is around..lol), I use to catch up with all of my friends, visiting or on the phone, especially the ones I havent seen for a while. I sort through my bills and paperwork, (half heartedly) spring clean my house. Sometimes just laying around doing nothing at all and enjoying the peace and quiet, maybe reading. I like to go shopping and buy new pillows, candles and incense for the bedroom, get my hairdone, pedicure, all the girly stuff. We talk on the phone for an hour or more every night.

When he gets back, we fall into our usual lifestyle together, both working full time, household stuff, teenage family, we spend most of our spare time together, whether at home, eating out, socialising, sunday drive to markets, etc.

My late husband travelled for his job too. He would fly out on Monday morning and come home early evening on Friday every week. I also worked full-time so I was busy with my work. Gratefulky I also have a great group of friends. So I would get together with them when we had the time in the evenings. I have hobbies, like making jewelry and sewing. He and I would write to each other just about every day to remain in touch when he was out of town. My week would go by pretty fast and he would be home again.

Some additional advice: Don't go out drinking alone or with friends, as that could put you in a really bad position and your guard would be down. Find what your interests are and cultivate your talents. Take a class of some kind. Enjoy your friendships. You can get through his time away, and you will enjoy your time together much more. Best wishes!

have a sleepover with a girl friend - watch movies, eat popcorn, fun stuff like that :)

relax

do all the girlie stuff you like to do that he is not in to - go shopping, watch chick flicks, take a bath

read a book, write a book, paint a picture *lol* you know, spend time in your hobby...

keep a journal - write to him every day that he is gone, maybe even include pictures, then when he gets home - give it to him..

I'm dating a commericial pilot. He's home for a few days and gone for a few days. I have been a single mom for 10 years, so it works great for me and my son.

Just continue your life, you know, the one you had when he fell in love with you.

The most my husband has been gone is a week and half. During that time I went to dinner and movies with friends, caught up on some reading, and bowling and even a late night out dancing. Be creative and try new hobbies.

Go do the things you used to do when you were single, go out, hang out with friends, go shop, go have dinner with friends, have fun.

try cleaning the house and re arrange things so he will be surprised when he comes back.pamper yourself,go to a parlor or spa.everything that will surprise him.

Have an affair. it's such fun, trust me.

i answer questions on yahoo lol

I'd cheat on him.

How do travel web sites work ? Do they have tie up with each Airline?

Does anyone know technically how long it takes to build an online travel website? I need both cost and time.

technically speaking, at least 2 weeks.

it will cost around $50,000 to get started.

Can travel between work and counselling be tax deductible?

I plan to catch a tax directly from my workplace to the counseling which is the approved Employee Assistance Program counsellor as they rarely have vacancies outside of work hours. Then I will catch a taxi back to work to finish my day. Would those two taxi rides be considered tax deductible? The subject for the counseling is to do with issues at work and not personal problems.

I personally think it should be tax deductible for the following reason,

It is an approved Employee Assistance Program;

It directly relates to the income producing activities;

The outcome of the program will improve the work performance;

Also if your employer paid for the counselling, the work related counselling will be exempted from Fringe Tax Benefit.

Good luck!

As per the ATO website information,

You can claim the cost of travelling:

from your normal workplace to an alternative workplace â€" for example, a client’s premises â€" while still on duty and back to your normal workplace or directly home

If the counselling is part of your work or training, the travel expenses should be deductible.

No, the issues might be work related but that doesn't make the travel deductible.

Would you work for a Foundation which put people first, without pay, but plenty of free travel?

See for yourself once it is all set up and ready to go.

The tropical island is famous for its friendly people.

You would visit at least once each year the estate, and live well, yet see first hand all the wonderful work being doing right there.

Too good to be true?

No, not really, but the only thing from it going ahead now is the lack of trustworthy people who aren't in it for the benefits.

why not?

Service to humanity is the greatest service to mankind.

Rotary 4 way test says it all.

1. is it the truth

2. is it fair to all concerned

3. will it build goodwill and better friendship

4. will it be beneficial to all concerned

my daughter has sworn that one day she will be rich and will set up a programme to become a social landlord to people in need (esp one parent families), however in order to keep it running she would at times need to ask for help, hopefully she would make her request with the fullest possible details via normal post to local authorities, and perhaps to the public. Sad to say your garbled and vague premise here has me doubtful. and possibly has other people feeling the same way.

I will never ever set foot in an airplane again for the rest of my life, so offering travel isn't an effective way to catch my interest in a job.

A job like that would attract a lot of kids in their mid-twenties, who are longing for travel, and have no children, so they won't care about insurance or having a stationary residence or even if they happened to be killed in a plane crash. Good job for a kid, but not for anyone with children/responsibilities.

You fail to describe what the "work" is. Does it simply mean that people travel to a beautiful island once or more per year, look at other people working, and then fly home? What you've described is a free vacation, yet you state that you can't find trustworthy people who aren't in it just for the benefits. Since all you're describing are the "benefits", what else can you expect?

maybe if single but aint so me kids etc come first

yes i would go, perhaps aim for people who have just done their A levels maybe, like me i am dying to go traveling.

I travel by bike to work every day but my husband takes me real slow and moreover i work as a radio jockey?

i travel by bike to work every day but my husband takes me real slow and moreover i work as a radio jockey so harld have a stressful job. im very comfortable. is there something like i am not allowed to work until im 3 months. im just 5 weeks now.

Have you seen a doctor yet? I've never heard of anyone not being able to work because of pregnancy unless they have a high-risk pregnancy or as close to their due date and choose to stay home to rest.

How long would you be willing to travel to go to work?

Give the time you would be willing to travel going one direction.

1hour max

1/2 of an hour

Probably only a half an hour at the most

Depends on how much I am getting paid. If I'm driving, 1 hour. I MAY do 1.5 but that's really pushing it, and I'd have to get paid nice +benefit

My husband has a chance to travel to Afghanistan for work how safe is it?

it is doing electrical contracting, we are Canadian so I think it will be on a Canadian military base.

I am asking here because you are all wives/mothers/and have children

our daughter is 5.

Also he has been out of work since Christmas and we have no money.

My hubby is an electrician and he wanted to do this too. We are Canadian as well.. living in Ontario and I said ABSOLUTLEY NOT! My son and I need him too much to allow him to risk his life over there. There are tons of jobs that he can find around here.

I would say totally do it! My husband is a translator and the money is phenomenal! Also, he's been deployed through army, so scared but with your husbands work he will be on a secured base with constant ppl on guard watching the surroundings. Pretty safe actually. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20090315075608AAKEsMo&kid=AbNvM23WL0WS6O_8i4n6&s=comm&date=2009-03-15+15%3A14%3A58&.crumb=

My husband, kids and I were in Israel for his work for a very short amount of time and my youngest sister was also there studying abroad for 6mo.

We left about a week before a whole bunch of problems broke out. My sister only 2 days before.

It terrifies me to think what may have happened.

Not all of Afghanistan is "dangerous". But there is always a risk. I have a friend who is living there with her husband and they love it! She actually came back for a vist 2 weeks ago and brought me a pashmina :)

There's a risk no matter where you are. but in a war torn country it's a lot higher.

Chances are you'll be absolutely fine, and have no problems.

But there is a risk, and it's a higher risk than most countries pose.

So my advice is to weigh up the pros and cons and then decide which is best for you and your family.

Good luck :)

My husband is a excavator and was actually offered this same opportunity. He refused it because it is EXTREMELY dangerous and contractors aren't allowed to arm themselves with a gun. Good luck!

It is still very dangerous over there even if you aren't on the front lines, honestly I would ask him not to go unless ya'll really need the money.

I'm going to be honest..it is still pretty dangerous over there! I wouldn't be comfortable with it at all!

you have no money- but you have a computer and internet

I would let my hubby go over there for work- it is dangerous!!!!!!!!!!

Help!! I have to travel for work and I can't take my family, how can I video conference with them?

I have to travel for work and it is the first time leaving my babies... I want to video conference with them, what equipment can I purchase to make this happen? We only have one lap top.

Hi,

You would need a web cam on both ends for you to see the babies. I would recommend picking up a webcam for about 25-30 USD (creative, logitech, microsoft lifecam, etc) so you can see them back.

From there...all a matter of choosing a video calling product that works for you. Possible options:

Skype (download required)

Tokbox (used to work there); no download required

One each side you need a PC with a web cam (optional) and a microphone (required).

Laptops have built-in microphones and there are web cams with built-in mics as well.

Then install yahoo messenger on both, although there are many other alternatives (MSN, AOL, Skype, etc.)

How does the ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) work? Is it a safe decision to make instead of a regular visa?

I am planning to go to Australia for tourist purposes. I am an American Citizen. I am thinking of doing the ETA rather than regular visa because it's hassle free, Approved instantly, no paperwork and its cheaper. But is it necessarily effective and safe? How does the ETA work?

Thank you for all the information.

it is very effective and safe(make sure you get it from the australian government site)

its all done electronically, the record of your visa will be in the australian customs system.you will get a conformation number when you are approved

i got one for my canadian husband to come home to australia with me or a visit and there was no hassles at all

enjoy my home country!

The ETA is absolutely safe and there is nothing whatsoever that can go wrong. Make sure you go to https://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ (our official government site) and apply for it yourself. Don't go through a travel agent or any other site.

Going to Australia for 12 months, need to know can i work when i travel on visit/tourist visa?

i am from India Going to Australia for 12 months, need to know can i work when i travel on visit/tourist visa?

I am planning to go and tour Australia for 12 months next year on a tourist/visit visa. I want to travel around and working also. I am a qualified Electrician, would I find enough work? am i permitted to work under tourist/visit visa or what is the method? Also what is the average cost of living?i am 30 now planning to go on a tourist visa and find a job, and start working and apply for the required visa? can this happen....

No, you need to apply for a working visa at the Australian consulate/embassy. If you are caught working without a visa they will deport you.

it only took me an hour, at the consulate, dont know if being a british citz was the reason http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20060722073842AA9osjH&kid=QsUmXDW.A2VdW8TrpJ.4r5BgvCL6TZbFp4YyeuBJkCJ6Dv6iD.un&s=comm&date=2006-07-23+07%3A03%3A37&.crumb=

Usually you need to be "sponsored" by someone who you're going to be working for; otherwise, if you go over there with no job, how do they keep track of you; I think since 9/11 things have become more strict in regards to work visas http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20060722073842AA9osjH&kid=NbUvWDK.UzarktSAwg35&s=comm&date=2006-07-24+16%3A08%3A26&.crumb=

Contact the Australian consulate for that info.

Can an employer request documented travel time to work?

as a field inspector using a personal car and reimbursed for company mileage, does the employer have any precedent right to request and document what time the inspector leaves his house? any stops along the way prior to the start of the work day? whether reporting to the office or the field location?

It is your car. You are only required to turn in a mileage log. The rest of the info. is an invasion of privacy.

if you live in the united states your job is allowed to own you. they do have the rights to all that information if it is on their dime -- and usually when its not on their dime too.

You bet they can.

the employer has the right to request anything they want. you are not always obligated or required to grant that request. if you have a question you can ask to see the company policy on the matter.

they are required by law to have a policy on what they can request and what is kept private.

Yes, so far as mileage is concerned, but outside of normal working duties (unless it is a company car) they have no right to ask. Personally, ask an accountant what works better for reimbursements...them or Uncle Sam at the end of the year. That has worked much better for me.

Not only does your employer have the right, it's an IRS regulation concerning mileage reimbursement. You are required to keep a log of your mileage with dates and times, and whether the mileage is personal or business.

Yes he does, it's a real good idea to start keep track of all this. Get a little note book or something that you can enter the information.

I would say yes, because it may have to do with liability insurance. Typically, if you're going to or from work (from your home), you're not considered on the job and therefore, if you got into an accident, you wouldn't be covered by the employers' insurance. But if you were going from the office to a field location, you might be considered being on the job, unless you deviated from your route so much that it wouldn't be considered as such.

But, I think that's the reason why they want this documentation.

I would take a look at the contract you signed when you were hired, but I don't think that info is really nessessary. I think that milage should be sufficiant. Unless you are getting paid hourly (not salary). If you are getting paid an hourly wage, than they do have a right to know what time you start (so they can start paying you!)

If they are paying for mileage i would say yes.

They have to have proof yes?

At least your mileage daily.

Darn right. if they are paying for it, they can require anything they want.

How far did you travel to work while pregnant?

I drive two hours a day (one hour each way) to get to work and i am finding it hard while pregnant, i am keen to find out how long other pregnant women travel to get to work??

thanks

I know how you feel!

I live in Central London and travel to Essex each day. I start work at mid-day and finish at 11pm.. (Not very nice people around on public transport at this time!)

I have to take a bus to the train station (about 20 mins) and then two tube trains to essex and then a 10 minute walk (seems like all up hill!). All together the journey takes about 1 1/2 hours each way. So on top of 11 hours at work I travel for about 3 hours too!

I'm 24 weeks pregnant now and I'm leaving work in 4 weeks. I refuse to work any longer than this because the long work hours plus late/long journey is killing me! It's also quite dangerous where I work, people stabbed and shot there all the time. I'm more aware of the danger now that I'm pregnant!

Luckily, I have 3 weeks paid holiday to use up before I start my maternity leave in March. Then I get 52 weeks off... Can't wait!

Good luck with your pregnancy! xx

I stopped working when I found out I was pregnant with my 3 year old daughter. I started working part time when she turned 2, and I don't work now because I'm pregnant with twins.

For me I have to drive about 15-20 minutes to work which is at a medical office as a secretary. I never worked when I was pregnant, at least not until I knew I was. I guess it's just me but I think when you have very small children you should take the time off!

I traveled to and from NYC from Virginia (which is 8 hour drive) my whole pregnancy up until 35 weeks. They usually say after 34 weeks its best to stay close to home and if youre going to travel far drink plenty of water and make plenty of stops to stretch your legs. So you can travel as much as you want as long as youre comfortable with it.

I am the same an hour there and back sometimes a little longer. And I work off hours 12-9pm so I avoid traffice and it STILL takes that long. It is tiring! The worst is sometimes my lower back starts to ache for the drive.. that sucks!

I drive about 1 hour and 15 minutes each way. I find it boring latley but it is a must. I keep adding new music to my ipod or I am thinking about maybe the books on cd. Something to make the commute less boring.

I'm fortunate to only work about 20 minutes away, you can try using a doughnut pillow under your toosh while driving, that might help with easing the discomfort.

I traveled 30 minutes each way, but I worked as a compliance specialist for 9 properties. So I had to go to several different places once my workday started. I was always tired.

I travel about 25 minutes each way.

About 5 minutes to work one-way. I went to school 45 minutes away though.

This is a tough one...

My commute is half hour to 45 minutes

Is it possible to get a working visa for the US similar to what you can get for Australia to allow work&travel

I am from the UK and want to go to the US for an extended trip probably for upto one year to work and travel around. I have had one for Australia where you can go over to work to supplement funds for travel but do the US have anything like this? I have had a look on various websites but can't seem to find anything but maybe I'm not looking in the right place. Does anyone know? thanks

You can for up to a max of two(2yrs) but this web site says 1.

it is classed as (B1) there is a (B2)

http://www.unitedstatesvisas.gov/business.htmlit

Hope this helps you. Good Luck..

Go to www.state.gov for info on visas for the USA.

UK citizens qualify for the Visa Waiver Program and you can visit the USA for up to 90 days at a time w/o a visa. However, the VWP does not allow you to work in the USA.

Getting a work visa can only happen if you are sponsored by a USA company that will do the paperwork required by the State Department (the agency that issues visas).

It's a bit harder to work in America than it is in Australia, but it can be done! Bunac are offering programmes which allow you to work in the USA and Canada (canada is easier for UK passport holders) as is CCUSA. (http://www.bunac.com and http://www.ccusa.com). The B1 and B2 visa's mentioned previously don't actually allow you to work (legally!), but if you can prove you have enough funds when you arrive in the country then you can apply for one to travel. You may find someone willing to employ you without a working visa... not that I would at all suggest you do this of course ;)

Good luck with it all. I've worked and travelled all over the USA (as an au pair, which is another option?) and had the best time of my life. Feel free to email me if you have any further questions. I've managed to find ways to work the system over there various times!

I took the course from Ruben. He gives the class based on word of mouth only, so it is not a scam.

It does cost a bit of money to get started though, and you work through his agency. I believe it was $400.

you can get great travel benefits, and depending on how frequently you book for clients, you can get great commissions.

Use my name as a referral and it should be discounted.

Is there an organization that will pay for my travel to relocate to do volunteer work in New Orleans?

I want to live and work in New Orleans and I don't have the money to move. I would do volunteer work, until I get on my feet.

I'm not aware of relocation reimbursement specifically, but you might want to check with the Hands On Network to see if they can refer you to an organization that will assist with your travel expenses.

I think there may still be some churches that will help a volunteer to get into the Katrina area to do community service work. Beyond that I have no idea. You are to be commended for your desire to help I have relatives in that area and have information from them that there is far more to be done than has already been done.

How do the road signs which give estimated travel times work?

I live in the Bay Area and drive to work on 101. On the freeway, I pass "signs" that give you automated estimates of driving times to various destinations (e.g. 10 minutes to 237, 25 minutes to 280, etc). These signs are updated dynamically, presumably to reflect current traffic conditions, and I have found them to generally be pretty accurate.

But my question is this: does anyone know how they actually work? Is there a traffic helicopter taking pictures and some human expert who then guessimates based on these pictures and updates the sign? Is it automatically counting the number of cars that pass certain checkpoints in a given time period and estimating based on that?

What is actually going on? Does anyone know for sure how these signs work?

I also live in the Bay Area. I remember when, how they estimate driving times, by data gathered by the Fastrak transponder (maybe now the road speed sensors). That is how I remember at that time.

Copy and Paste from the http://www.511.org/

How does the Driving Times feature work?

http://traffic.511.org/faq.asp#f89

They have sensors in the roadbed to monitor road speed and cameras to watch for accidents everything is usually computer controlled.

they monitor the speeds on the road through sensors

Permanent sensors in the roads, traffic cameras, etc.

If you go to http://www.511.org/ you can get the data interactively. The data on the signs comes from the same place.

As a Chinese backpacker, is that possible to find some work in Europe and then continue to travel?

as a Chinese backpacker, is that possible to find some work in Europe and then continue to travel?

If you only hold a tourist visa (e.g. Schengen visa) then no legally it is not permitted to undertake work whilst visiting Europe

Illegally then of course there may be opportunities, but I certainly wouldn't recommend this. Employers that offer these kind of jobs, are not ones with social consciouses, they merely want cheap labour, will not pay well or give any work related benefits, you are not insured (in the case of an accident at work), and they will exploit you to the max!

If caught then the employer faces a large fine and you face deportation with no chance of obtaining a visa ever again

However, many tourists do carry on doing this anyway, but be aware of the risks and outcome, and then you can make your own decision.

In my opinion you would be better working an extra 6 months in China, saving money and then coming as a tourist and not having to worry about any of that.

How to claim child care credit on taxes and can you write off bus expenses to travel to work?

I just got a new job and had a baby. I go back to work Monday and I am now taking a bus to get to the city 2.25 each way so 4.50 a day and I pay 675 a month for childcare 4 days a week.

Can you write these things off in your taxes so it is like money you never made. Example if I pay 1200 a year for the bus ride is it like I made 30,000 instead of 31,200 if that is the situation. And the same thing for the daycare, can you write it off so it is like i made 20,000 instead of 30,000 if I paid 10,000 for a year of daycare? I get a receipt for daycare but not for the bus? Thank you any help is greatly appreciated.

At work they have this account where they can take money out and pay your daycare and it is like money you never made but it is complicated and if you don't use it you lose it and I would just rather do it in my taxes if possible if it is the same scenio.

Thanks

Your bus expenses are not deductible, sorry.

You have two choices regarding child care.

First, you can pay the childcare out of pocket. Then when you file your taxes, attach Form 2441 Child and Dependent Care Credit. You will get a credit of between 20% and 35% of the first $3,000 of child care expenses against taxes that you owe.

Your other option is to have your employer reduce your pay and use that amount toward child care. You will not pay any income taxes on this money. You are allowed to reduce your pay up to $5,000.

Which option you choose depends on several factors. For example, if your income is low enough so that you will not owe income taxes, then the first option does not benefit you. You are probably better off taking the second option.

At the other extreme, if your income is high and you qualify for the minimum credit of 20% of $3,000, or a tax credit of $600, then the second option is going to be better for you since your tax bracket is higher than 20%.

If you can do a mock tax return for 2007, you will see which option is more beneficial for you. If you use the second option and reduce your income, this may have an effect on other credits such as the Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit. So do those mock returns.

At first glance, it seems that the second option may be better for you, since your expenses are going to be much more than $3,000. The credit only applies to the first $3,000, but the dependent care benefit taken out of your paycheck can be as high as $5,000.

Daycare expenses are a credit on your federal taxes. Technically not a deduction but there is a tax benefit. See Form 2441. For one child, the maximum credit is between $600 and $900 depending on your income. So, of the $8000 you will be paying for daycare, you will only get back $600 or so.

Expenses commuting back and forth to work are never deductible. We all have to get to work somehow. It is just more expensive for some.

Above answers are for federal. In PA for state taxes there is no deduction for child care expenses.

The cost of commuting to work is never deductible, but some employers will allow you to have money set aside from your pay to pay for public transit or parking. (Transit Chek is a big provider of this benefit.)

You can get a credit for children under the age of 13, but it appears that the maximum credit is less than taxes on the $8,100 you mention. If you are afraid of losing the money in a pre-tax plan, you can have slightly less than you need withheld from your pay and make up the remaining amount. The childcare credit is calculated on Form 2441. The maximum amount of childcare used is $3,000. The percentage of the credit is based on your income. If you make $30,000 the amount of credit you would get is $3,000 * .27 = $810. Even if you are only in the 15% tax bracket for federal taxes, you would save $1,215 if you use your employer's plan.

You didn't mention what state(s) you live and/or work in, so I couldn't address the state tax implications.

Pennsylvania doesn't have a tax credit for child care expenses.

I would recommend you ask an Australian embassy official these questions when you get your passport and visa.

How long does it take you to drive/travel to your place of work?

How many miles or minutes does it take you to get to work, and do you find it reasonable?

When I first moved to the U.S., my commute was 160 miles per day.

Then just recently, my work was only 1.7 miles (both ways).

Now I'm laid off, so I commute to my back yard on sunny days.

My job is roughly one mile from where I work. I live in a really small town and while there are many dirt roads and some paved ones, the main road is US HWY 68, that goes from Kingman Az to Laughlin, NV right dead smack through the center of our town. I live and work on that road. Most days I walk to work and it takes about a half an hour because you have to walk in the desert along the side of the highway. When I get a ride, it takes less than 5 minutes to get here.

When I was bringing my baby to work with me, it took like 45 minutes to walk and that kind of sucked because pushing a stroller through the dirt is not an easy task. lol

I'm at the other end of the spectrum. I have about a seven step commute to my office! I work from home. :)

What is the best way for me to not work but travel the world?

I want to travel the world full-time, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing it. I'm a writer, so that might be an option, but isn't it tough to get into travel writing?

You could check into travel writing, also a food critique or something similar. The best way though is to learn to invest money properly and play the stock market. If you invest wisely it can be your full time jobs (even if you only work on it a few hours a week). Then with the money you make, travel the world.

Doing this, you could also earn more money from your travels. Take photographs, review destinations, hotels, etc. and then sell them to magazines, as stock, etc. This would help bring in some more income. Also, you could look into starting your own travel review website. You travel the world, take a laptop with you and review the places you go as you go. Then, write up reviews of your opinions and publish it on the web. Once your site becomes credible you can get people to advertise, get affiliate programs on there, etc. and you could earn money that way... I know, I know, it's a hard job, but somebody has to do it ;-)

Hope this helps, good luck with your search!

Travel writing is very hard to get into. You might want to save up money for a while, and then travel the world using your savings.

Well, technically it's work... but you could go to the Peace Corps

Depending on your age, consider joining the Air Force. Out of all the forces, it tends to be the "gentlest" for the most part. There are so many differnt career fields, you can surely find one that suits your talents, such as PR. The best part is, they pay you to live in some fabulous places. I'm in Germany right now, living in a house 3 times bigger than what I could afford before. There are also bases in Hawaii, Guam, the Azores (islands off of Portugal), England, and Japan. There are also special duty assignments all around the world. I had friends just get here from Paris.

Well you could sell your house and live in a hotel in every city. then when you get rich on your awsome novels you could have small homes in all of your favorite cities!!

Hope it works out travel writer!!

I am a indian citizen working in switzerland on work permit would like to travel to germany ?

Can I apply for schengen visa in switzerland?

What details do I need to provide forschengen visa from switzerland?

My work permit is valid for a year.

Yes you can apply for the Schengen visa. Get the visa application from any of the Schengen country or preferably from the country you want to enter into first. Along with application you'll have all the requirements listed such as health insurance, confirm hotel booking, travel arrangements, bank statements etc. Fulfill those requirements and apply for the visa. Meanwhile if you have any further query ask the embassy. They will assist you.

What course/further studies do i need to take in order to work and travel internationally?

I know that nursing, medicine, and computer courses can make you work internationally. However, it is not the field that i like nor enjoy. I'm an International Business student and a junior student.

Right after graduation i am planning to work abroad or take further studies such as MBA or Law. However, i want to make sure what further study will i need to take in order to work internationally say international passport. I heard that diplomats can work internationally besides they are business person just like me and i like that --- working towards international arena.

I need opinion.

It really depends on how long you want to stay abroad. Since you're still in college, you would be in an entry level position anyway so BUNAC is a great program that allows students and recent graduates to spend one year working abroad. There's also something called the Mountbatten Institute that is an exchange program between the US and the UK. They will place you in an entry level position for one year and you don't leave the US until you have been placed which is a big plus over BUNAC which requires you to find your own job and that can be a little daunting when you're in a foreign country.

While you're in college, you can also study abroad through American University. They have something called the World Capitals Program that allows current students to travel to one of twelve (at least it was 12 when I graduated but they could have added more) countries and intern while abroad. This could translate to a more permanent position. I went to London for a semester and Copenhagen for one semester and in both programs, I knew people who stayed on for longer because the company was willing to sponsor them.

There are also a ton of teaching opportunities. JET is great program if you're interested in going to Japan where you spend a year, at minimum, teaching English. After completing the one year, you have the option of extending your contract.

You could also begin working here for an American company that has international locations and request a transfer. You could also look into the Foreign Service. If you choose this route, the administrative cone is the easiest to get into though none of them are easy.

Good luck!

What is it like to work for a travel agency?

what is it like to work for a travel agency?

My mom worked for travel agency and she got free trips to anywhere in the world. She went to Mexico and Hawaii

You better find a school that has a course in Travel........Many CC's do.

You better know a lot about travel and computers............why don't you go to a Travel Agency(find a small one) and ask them to train you and you will work there for nothing until they feel you can be trusted on your own.....Be like an intern

Would you work as a maid or babysitter or blue collar worker just to travel the world?

Example they are Malaysian working in UK as a babysitter, and in Austrlia grapevine just to travel the world.

Ya i would..

like seriously on of my biggest dreams r to travel the world..so i wouldn't mind..

but thing is i don't really like kids..LOL

Yes I would. Maid is just a small thing. The experience you gain while travelling is a BIG thing. Babysitter is better, I love kids.

If I have no better things to do why not.

It's "business" travel still.

i agree with The Incredible Shark...just do the job u love...and u will neevr have to work throughout your lifetiime (a Chinese proverb)

Do i get to write off travel expense for driving to work every day?

I know it may sound stupid, but i drive to work and it is nearly 45 miles one way. At the end of the day i have already driven 100 miles and i spend nearly 40 bucks every 4th day. Can i write that off as an expense to earn the income?

Please advice. Thanks

Nope. I write off mileage, but I can only write off things like leaving the office to go meet a client. My trips to and from the office are not deductible. Tragically.

You could always do it, and see if you get audited, but that's never a good idea.

Unless you are self-employed and your business requires you to drive a lot, then yes you can write it of as a travel expense.

If you are employee, then no you can't write of travel expenses. Its like writing of your work clothes for travel expenses.

Sorry, nope!

How many miles do you travel to work everyday?

And where do you live? Please answer only if you work.

I live in NorthWestern Iowa and I am currently sharing a drive with my husband to work that is about 28 miles one way. I have gotten another job and start Monday and I will then be driving 38 miles one way M-F.

Its a one mile round trip for me.

Oh about 1/4 mile - gotta love it!

Brisbane Australia.

a few yards to my computer...missouri

one, Delaware

28 one way.

I walk down the hall to my office in my home, then I'm at work.

Yes, it's work.

Houston,Texas

I live 22 miles north of Louisville...

office in Louisville (approx. 35 miles)

office in Lexington (approx. 82 miles)

office in Cincinnati (approx. 87 miles)

office in Indianapolis (approx. 120 miles)

I have an office at each of these locations...

On a bad day, I will have to go to each location. If I have to go to each location in one day, you can bet that someone is loosing their job!

On a good day, I'll stay here, next to the pool with my laptop!

6 blocks, on the same street. (I bike)

Charleston, SC

9 miles. W. Lafayette Indiana

about 40 round trip-South Carolina

60 - roundtrip

(Fair Oaks Ranch, TX to San Antonio, Texas)

about 13 miles which is about 15 minuites if i speed lol

12 miles round trip

How long should you travel to work and on what salary?

Ok I am needing to know what is distance/time wise is it ok based on salary, ok if you are making 45k per year is it work driving 1 hour 15 min to work?

1hr and 15min is kinda at my max for how much I'm willing to drive, but it depends on how much you like the job, is their a lot of traffic, is it a nice drive, do you have a car that gets good gas millage, are you ok with being in the car 3-4 hours a day, etc

Are you trying to figure out if is worth of you to drive 1 and 1/4 hours to work time wise or cost wise? Both? It depends on what is the mileage you get on your commuting tool. I am lucky that I have a motocycle, so I started to commute on it now, it cut the commute time down from 45 min. to 30 min, and I am getting 55m/g instead of 20m/g.

Well, other solution would be moving close to work..that would solve both problems. good luck on whatever you are trying to figure out here..

To me it wouldn't be worth it....if it's 1 hr 15 minutes away that usually means you would probably have to give yourself 2hrs due to traffic/accidents. So your spending all most all of your time traveling or working.

I would rather work closer to home and have a smaller salary.

AndrewK made some really good points. Also, do you have children that you need to pick up by a certain hour?

Keep in mind, that if you move closer to work, you may pay higher rental fees, but it may be worth it if you think about gas prices now and in the future.

I wouldn't drive 1 hour & 15 minutes each way! Think of the gas you will need. I drive 45 minutes each way & hate it. Keep in mind that is 2 1/2 hours a DAY that you would have to drive. (Can you move closer to the job?)

work from home and I want to go wireless so I can travel more.?

I have a linksys compact wireless-g usb adapter and I want to know if I go into hotels that has wi-fi, will this connect me to the interne?. I work from home and I want to go wireless so I can travel more.

Probably, but you will need to obtain the security log in information from each hotel. If the USB wireless adapter works in general, you should be able to detect the local wireless network when you boot up the machine and then enter the security code to log onto the local network.

You will be able use in hotels. Most hotels have hotspots, they have free internet. And some require you pay for the connection. So just kind of ask when mking yor resevations.

I have wireless bt i also have an aircard for when i am i areas that do ot have hotpots, from my cell phone provider, you may wan to look in to.

Hope this help....
